Hi All,
I'm having a heck of a time getting two graphics cards to work on both a Tyan Tomcat K8S and Tyan Thunder K8S. I am using MX440 cards, both PCI. I'm running Fedora Core 2(64bit) with all the latest updates, one is SMP the other isn't. Both are Opterons. I'm using the most current NVidia drivers. I posted the following a few months ago but didn't get any replies. I'm totally stuck and any help or pointers would be very appreciated. When I do an "lspci" it shows both of my graphics cards. 01:03.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev c1) 01:06.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev a4) When I select dual headed in display settings both of these addresses appear in my xorg.conf file, one as videocard0 and the other as videocard1. When I try to load XWindows I get a failure saying (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:06:0 (WW) NVIDIA: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:3:0) found (--) Chipset NVIDIA GPU found (--) Chipset NVIDIA GPU found So one card isn't being found somehow. If I gut that card out of my xorg.conf then things work great. I can use my "nvidia" driver and see awesome accelerated 3D graphics. No matter what I do I can't get the other card to come up. I try the "nv" driver, and get the same error. If I tell my bios to scan PCI from first to last instead of last to first I get totally different PCI addresses and the OTHER monitor comes up and works but the original one now can't be found(at the new address that's assigned to it, 3.x.0). So I know both cards and both monitors work, just not at the same time. Both cards are identical except for chip revision(rev a4 and rev c1). When I run the NVIDIA install command, as it installs I actually get a printed message that says something along the lines of "Can't find card at 01:03:00 Error -1" Not those exact words, but that's what it's telling me. It might say "probe error". I have tried several kernels from the original FC2 install to 2.6.7 both SMP and not SMP. I'm having this problem on 2 different systems, both at Tyan motherboards(Tomcat and Thunder), one with Geforce 2 graphics cards the other GForce 4 graphics cards. The error I get in xdm-errors is: Module Loader present OS Kernel: Linux version 2.6.7 (root@Senter-Linux) (gcc version 3.3.3 20040412 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7)) #1 SMP Sun Jul 11 18:01:40 CDT 2004 Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting, (++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational, (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. hey, I'm havin the same problem as you, with more modest hardware. any resolution? I'm just about to call it a day, and attack this again tomorrow.
Did you run the configs for X, or let the Gui take care of adding the entries? I'm thinking that my config is not written correctly. I also have some entries saying that sections are missing but these come after the "No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:9:0) found" message. |
