I so don't need this guide. My computer is going to eat half-life.

Half-Life 2 isn't anything revolutionary in terms of visual appearance, or the technicality of the engine.

It's just about as advanced as UT2004 with a DX9 interface.

No optimization guide needed.

EDIT: Plus, it states ATi users should turn on TruForm. Anything R300 class or above does TruForm in emulation, therefore, very slow. Anything below R300 class is just too slow to even run HL2 at high details, let alone turning on truform.

i think the best thing about hl2 is going to be the facial animations.

Eh, I dunno - I'd say the facial expression system is pretty revolutionary. It's not gonna make your computer cry to run it at 1024x768 or above, but that's still something that hasn't been done before.

Yes, it's a nifty feature which eases the creation of believable facial expressions, but that is a physics function. I meant to say the renderer was not anything revolutionary.

So, in a way the engine is revolutionary...in its physics model.

Personally I think Half Life 2 beats the **** out of Doom 3 when it comes to the quality of graphics. That's because id's idea of adding detail is bump mapping everything. Half Life and Half Life 2's maps are well thought out to make a very believable experience.
