John Carmack's next engine WILL be a new engine...just based on the Unified lighting and shadowing.

also, notice how the real-time shadowing in those screens give them a much more realistic look.

No precomputed bull****. Unified rendering.

Carmack is trying to move away from CPU dependant and focus on harnessing the power of the GPU's.

So basically, its all in the GPU's court now.

Not really ...
you will only need screens that go over each eye... sit or lay down in an extreamily comfortable position... and use this technology.

I hope he incorporates his other hobby into this game engine. Rocket flight would be cool, game based around his other endeavor would be awesome and may keep him more interested overall.

That's a problem of mappers, not of the engine. Unreal Engine had the capability to use complex 3D enviroments as skyboxes since the beginning, yet many maps (even in UT2004) have a very simple cylindrical or hemispherical background. Dunno about Doom engine, but Quake 3 engine had similar capabilities.

Screw ToyStory. I want Final Fantasy! If he can make an engine that can do Advent Children in real time, HE IS A GOD! =P
