Default FX 5900 nu help

I have a BFG Geforce FX 5900NU with 128MB video memory with the latest Forceware drivers. I get alot of video lag on Far Cay, Battlefield Vietnam, UT 2004, and even on Battlefield 1942. I play all those game at 1024X768X32 with the settings at about medium, It doesn't help even if I change the resoultion or any of the other settings. If you need to see what other hardware I'm running, just look at my signatue below. Please help me

You should be doing better than that. I play Doom3, UT2004 at 1024 x 768, high settings (doom), highest settings (UT2004) without problems.

If your power supply is good, then Im thinking driver conflict somewhere. Maybe reload latest Nvidia drivers (61.77) and use driver cleaner.

Before that, do the usual checks. Make sure VSync is off, AA and AF are off, set agp aperture in mobo bios to 256 or 512 (since you have lots of memory), turn off any WinXP services running in background that use memory (task manager and Auto updates are 2 biggies), turn off fastwrites, etc.

Post back how things go. Your system is like mine so you most definintly should be better. Also, can overclock your vid card and cpu to speed things up, but best to try and optimize your system first. Good luck

ok, I seemed to fix it, it wasn't my 5900 it was my CPU. It was only set to 100MHz in the bios, I changed it to 166 and now it says that I actually have an AMD Athlon 2800+ (it used to say that I have a 1.24GHz), anyways games run way better now, I usually get 99-100 fps in Battlefield 1942 when there isn't any action going on, farCry on the other hand still lags pretty bad for some reason.

DOH

If you ever start overclocking stuff, you'll notice even more of a performance boost. If everything works ok and is stable now, Id just enjoy your games for the time being.

I think there are some tweak guides to make FarCry run better. Maybe check out the games forum here at NVNews

I actually didn't overclock it, I just put it up to what it's susposted to be, I paid for a 2800+, it was only running 1.24GHz, I set it to what I paid for. So it wasn't overclocked, if I put it let's sat a 3000+, then that would be overclocking.

the FX 5xxx family has pretty poor shader performance, and farcry uses these shaders loads. which is, unless you own a 6800, quite a performance killer. However, if you open the Farcry configuration tool and select 'customize', you can edit nearly every parameter the crytek engine supports. as Kev1 mentioned, find a tweak guide that centres on the configuration custom options and you should see a big speed increase without losing too much quality

The 59xx series cards are in a higher league of performance than the other 5xxx cards you speak of. And the 5900nu on up, run all the games he mentioned perfectly fine.

sure they run the games fine, but by messing with the game settings - especially the shader related settings - a noticeable speed increase can be seen. my 5900u gave me lag too until i tweaked farcrys settings

Nope. My 5900XT plays far cry great, even on a 266FSB. Nothing wrong with my PS2.0 performance. I "messed with the game settings" and it got better looking at minimal performance loss.
