Nvmixer has no effect on volume HELP!!!

Ok ive got a SOYO CK8 motherboard (Nforce3 / AC97 sound). Nvmixer has NO effect on volume or any other setting for that matter. Sound stays at one constant level. Im running Gentoo Linux with kernel 2.6.7. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?? Here is some output from dmesg, maby it will be helpfull.
