Default Video-IN for FX5600

I have an ASUS V9560 VS running fine under XFree on dual DVI 191Ts. Driver 6111 in kernel 2.6.7 at a depth of 16 gives ~5200 on glxgears.

What I'd like to do is get the video in working. It's a gentoo distro, but xawdecode fails with a stupid error about alsa (works fine everywhere else). MythTV cannot get thru the perl pieces of xmltv. Xawtv seg faults. I wonder if something basic is wrong, or it's just more gentoo junk.
