Unhappy Driver 61.11 failed compiled on GCC 3.4.2 ?

Hi,
I am using Slackware 10 and have the latest slackware-current gcc 3.4.2 installed.

I compiled a new kernel (2.6.9-rc2-mm1) using 3.4.2 successfully. However, I can't install the 61.11 driver on that kernel.

Could anyone please confirm it 61.11 is broken on GCC 3.4.2?

If not, how can I solve this problem?

Thanks!

Hi,
I am using gcc 3.4.2 and 6.111 and have no probs. You should try a less experimental kernel.

Is the kernel option "CONFIG_REGPARM=y" going to affect the result?

As to me nVidia's excellent Linux driver should be able to compile in all kernels.... I wonder whether it is some aggressive settings in the kernel config....

Hi,

I am using CONFIG_REGPARM=y, but I am using ebuilds for the driver, too.

CONFIG_REGPARM=y works fine with 61.11 drivers.

Note that recent 2.6.9 prerelease snapshots do introduce incompatibilities, which have been discussed on this forum before, but which aren't specific to a given compiler.

Sorry it was a typo. 61.11 works fine with CONFIG_REGPARM

I also have a "driver will not compile" error under 2.6.9-rc2-mm1 (noticed it under voluntary preempt S1 as well as under 'vanilla' rc2-mm1). 6111, slackware 10, stock compiler. Driver works fine under 2.6.9-rc2. as above, so below: Around the bleeding edge, you must understand that it may fail, or worse, cut you.

Anybody isolate what does it yet? The unique options disabled, non-compile still seems to be a problem, and I'm waiting until my copious free time shows up to go through the broken down patches.

P.S.: REGPARM seems not to break nvidia's drivers because the interface is compiled to match the kernel, rather than simply being a plug-in binary driver. All subject to Finagle's intervention, of course.

@kirkengaard: replace PM_SAVE_STATE with PM_SUSPEND_MEM, PM_RESUME with PM_SUSPEND_ON and (as a preliminary workaround, if needed) pci_find_class with pci_get_class in usr/src/nv.c.
