Sounds like a neat program, but I dont think it does much good. I guess in theory it could lengthen the life of your CPU, but they last so long anyway, I doubt it matters.

Since it doesnt lower temps when your CPU is at its hottest, theres really no point unless you just dont want your system giving off a lot of heat, warming up your room all day.

Just my opinion anyways... figured it was worth some input since its causing problems anyway. My guess is that the slowdowns in UT are because it doesnt use a lot of CPU power on newer CPUs, so its trying to downclock the CPU during the game, which slows the game down some times... then when it realizes it needs more power, it clocks back up... then back down... then up.

Doesnt sound like a program anyone should be using... thats why we buy these new CPUs, to make things fast. If its running at half the speed most of the time, whats the point?

Yes, I am thinking the same thing. It does have one other benefit though, because the CPU is not generating as much heat the fan doesn't have to run as fast, so it is quieter. It is not a big problem if we turn it off, it is just nice to have. If I want to overclock I have to turn it off anyway.

I don't play the original UT much anyway so I might leave Cool & Quiet on for the moment, until I start overclocking. This isn't a help for Head_slinger though because he has this problem in UT2k3/4 and Raven Shield.

thanks for feedback aston. It does seem to be C&Q that is causing the problem. I tried disbling it in UT and the game was fine. When i reenabled it the game was super fast. I think it could have something todo with the game figuring out how it should treat time. For example if your processor does 100mhz then it will scale the game speed down to that processor. Then once the processor speeds up the game doesnt realise and uses the same timing it configured with the slower speed. Or vice versa where it configres with a higher speed and the process slows down.

Good news though. You can actually disable it in windows.

Control Panel, Power Options, Minimal Power Management enables C&Q and Always On disables it.

I havnt tried it with Raven Shield yet though.
