HI !
I have gentoo 2.6 amd64 running on an aspire 1511lmi notebook with gforce 5700 go and amd64. The display has a resolution of 1024x768 and everything is working fine, opengl twinview ... But every few minutes the display flickers for less than a second and seems to be distorted by 3 bars as if it was refreshing or something like that. If i connect an external crt monitor with clone this problem doesn't occur anymore. i am using the newest driver and my xorg.conf follows Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/CID" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/local/share/fonts" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/local" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/ukr" EndSection Section "Module" Load "extmod" # Load "dri" Load "dbe" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "glx" Load "speedo" Load "type1" Load "freetype" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "keyboard" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "Monitor Model" EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: <i>: integer, <f>: float, <bool>: "True"/"False", ### <string>: "String", <freq>: "<f> Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "DigitalVibrance" # <i> #Option "NoFlip" # [<bool>] #Option "Dac8Bit" # [<bool>] #Option "NoLogo" # [<bool>] #Option "UBB" # [<bool>] #Option "Stereo" # <i> #Option "SWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "HWcursor" # [<bool>] #Option "VideoKey" # <i> #Option "NvAGP" # <i> #Option "IgnoreEDID" # [<bool>] #Option "NoDDC" # [<bool>] #Option "ConnectedMonitor" # <str> #Option "ConnectedMonitors" # <str> #Option "TVStandard" # <str> #Option "TVOutFormat" # <str> #Option "RenderAccel" # [<bool>] #Option "CursorShadow" # [<bool>] #Option "CursorShadowAlpha" # <i> #Option "CursorShadowXOffset" # <i> #Option "CursorShadowYOffset" # <i> Option "UseEdidFreqs" # [<bool>] #Option "FlatPanelProperties" # <str> Option "TwinView" # [<bool>] Option "TwinViewOrientation" "clone" # <str> #Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" # <str> #Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" # <str> Option "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768" # <str> #Option "UseInt10Module" # [<bool>] #Option "NoTwinViewXineramaInfo" # [<bool>] #Option "NoRenderExtension" # [<bool>] #Option "Overlay" # [<bool>] #Option "CIOverlay" # [<bool>] #Option "ForceEmulatedOverlay" # [<bool>] #Option "TransparentIndex" # <i> #Option "OverlayDefaultVisual" # [<bool>] #Option "NvEmulate" # <i> #Option "NoBandWidthTest" # [<bool>] #Option "CustomEDID-CRT-0" # <str> #Option "CustomEDID-CRT-1" # <str> #Option "CustomEDID-DFP-0" # <str> #Option "CustomEDID-DFP-1" # <str> #Option "CustomEDID-TV-0" # <str> #Option "CustomEDID-TV-1" # <str> #Option "TVOverScan" # <f> #Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" # <str> #Option "MultisampleCompatibility" # [<bool>] #Option "RegistryDwords" # <str> #Option "NoPowerConnectorCheck" # [<bool>] #Option "AllowDFPStereo" # [<bool>] #Option "XvMCUsesTextures" # [<bool>] #Option "HorizSync" # <str> #Option "VertRefresh" # <str> Identifier "Card0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "nVidia Corporation" BoardName "Unknown Board" BusID "PCI:1:0:0" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection thx in advance werner. |

It appears that you are having the same problem that I am. I just posted another thread:
"I have a Sony Vaio PCG-GRT170 with a Geforce FX Go5600. Every 10 minutes or so I have a flicker in my screen. The screen has interlaced black blocks within the picture for a split second. It is not only extremely annoying, but I am afraid that it will eventually damage my screen. I am using the 1.0-6111 driver and x.org 6.7. I have had this problem with every driver I have ever used for the computer. I believe the first driver i used was 1.0-5336 or something close to that. I have experienced the same problem with xfree 4.3, as well as x.org 6.8.0. Currently I am using Fedora Core 2, however, I have used also experienced this problem with Gentoo Linux 1.4, 2004.0, 2004.1, 2004.2. My video bios revision is 04.31.20.37.a8. My computer has a 2.8 ghz processor. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thank You, Joe" I have tried endless fixes for this, used internal and external agpgart, however, I have not been able to fix this problem. Post a bug report to nvidia, so they know that there are several cards that are experiencing this problem. Joe |

hi i found a simple and effective solution for me.
i added the mode 800x600 to the modes line in my conf and every time i start the x server i wait till it finished loading and then i change the resolution with alt-ctrl-+ to 800x600 for a second and then back to 1024x768 hitting the same combo again. after that the flicker doesn't occur anymore until the next reboot. i tried it without and the flicker is still present until i change the resolution and change it back.. hope it will work for you as well, werner ps: the + key in the key combination above is not the normal + key but the numpad +. i have to hold down the fn key too and then press the + button. therefore the combination for me is ctrl-alt-fn-; ( where ; is the key where my fn+ resides ( blue key)) |

if you wanna see some other curse on this kind of problem, see "nvidia makes X flicker at random times" thread.
Note: the flicker doesn't disappear changing resolution until the next reboot, but until the next monitor power-down mode. |
