Hi guys,
I just wanted to say I bought a Albatron 5200 EP 128MB. I am so happy with its performance, I payed $100 NZD (66.6056 USD) for it. It runs doom 3 playable on Medium and all other games. I'm upgrading to a 6800GT soon, but I just want to say if anyone has a low budget, go the FX5200 LOL ![]() |

Ya it gets a bad reputation, but when paired with a fast CPU the FX5200U can perform pretty decent. Obviously it's benchmarks leave much to be desired, but in real world games it gets the job done provided you don't care about AA/AF. I played UT2K3 on my father's Athlon64 3000 w/ FX5200U and it was very smooth at 1024x768
I'm glad you're happy with your purchase.

Too bad NVidia decided to include only one FP shader unit while implementing FX12 in both pipelines. The result is that upon switching from PS 1.1 to 1.4/2.0 the performance is halved

Everyones probably heard this already, but I had a 5600 256Mb and it was a total piece of crap. Vietcong was unplayable on that thing at anything over 800x600 with medium details, where as my 4400 and 9600 pro could play at very high details smoothly. In BF1942 my 5600 choaked at 1024x768 max details and 4xAF. My 4400 (which supposedly took a huge hit from AA\AF) could run at 1024x768 8xAF smoothly (my 9600 Pro could run at 1280x960 with 4xAA and 8xAF). Also, the optimizations that were enabled at the time made games look absolutely terrible.
Im glad your happy with your 5200... but I dont think ill ever recommend an FX card. Id consider a 5900, but nothing less. No way.

I'd recommend a 5200 if it was for $25, a 5200U if it was for $40... a 5600XT for $45, a 5600 for $50, a 5600U for $60, a 5700LE for $65, a 5700NU for $80 (they're worth it IMO)...
In the sub $60 area I stick with GF4ti or GF3... they're still worth the money...

Mmmm.. it's very true... the 5700 was actually a pretty damn fly card. For non gamers I think the 5200 was also not really a bad card. It was just so weak if you actually tried to used the features it had. Anyhow... as a matter of interest Antman (I'm in NZ also), how much are you paying for your 6800 GT?

I have a Apollo FX 5600XT 256m. After 66.32 drivers and a lil tweaking. Il2 and some other games run a high to prefect. It's not OCed because it has no fan. But that is what comes with the system I bought (1052$ Cdn). My system got a few thumbs down here. But I'm not money bag and have kids in school. For me it's cheaper to get this system and add a stick a ram, upgrade the CPU to a 3200 and a VC after. I could trade the CPU and use the VC in my 700 AMD, it has a TNT 2 M64. I use 66.32 Vds and 5.10 NV all in one

Man! That's REALLY cheap if that's in NZ dollars. What wholesaler exactly are we talking? BDT or Rennaisance? And what brand is this GT? Fantastic deal. Most 6800 NUs are retailling for between $600 - 660 NZ (I paid 660, but mine's passively cooled, which is nice if you like that sorta thing).
The cheapest GT retail value is (as far as I can see) NZ$790. Erm.. just check www.pricespy.co.nz for comparison.
