Well. I can't even play the damn game. After I applied their patch, when I start up, the start menu gets all corrupted and I have to exit. Anyone else have that problem? It only happened to me after the patch. I'm going to reinstall it without the patch and just wait for a newer one.

Hmmm.. not me... unless there's a newer patch than 1.1. [Which is the patch version I'm running]. Everything's fine. Man... the campaign mode in this game is SO great... I love it.

Ridiculous DOES not have an 'e' in it. It comes from "ridicule" and has less than nothing to do with the colour red.

I love the custom battles. The campaigns are great as well but sometimes I just want to go straight into an all out battle and having the custom battle option is awesome. I also like being able to save my battle replays and just watching the carnage over and over again. Flaming arrows and catapults are my favorite.

When you replay the scene from the enemy's point of view and watch hundreds of those flaming arrows come at you, it's just awesome.

It really is just a fantastic game... it's a shame more people aren't buyin' it. I keep telling people how cool it is, and no-one buys it.

Oh, about my menu screen in Rome:TW being corrupted. I found out that it was due to a conflict with Windows Media Player 10. I uninstalled WMP10, reverted back to WMP9, then installed the WMP9 Codecs located on the "Extras" part of the installation CD and it runs fine again. Activision says to reinstall WMP10 after this. So, If you find any type of corrution during the start up, try this fix.

How are you guys doing gameplay wise?

I'm playing the house of Julii. I've conquered all of Gaul, Spain and I just finished off the last of the Britons. I also own Alexandria, Memphis and two other Egyptian cities. The Egyptians are really tough though, they frequently attempt to recapture their cities and its difficult to get men and generals there. To make matters worse, my main army just got bought and is now fighting for the Egyptians. I'm now building assassins to kill any diplomat I see within my borders.

My men are totally bad-ass, though. They frequently defeat Egyptian armies twice their size. They are no longer intimated by chariots and phalanxes and the foot soldiers will stand their ground to the last man while my cavalry flank them.

Meh... I'm still learning the game, which means I'm playing on easy, which I consider Trivial. I am Julii though... I have much of Dacia, All of Europe, All of the UK, and some of Northern Africa. Still 9 provinces away from 50, but now I'm redistributing my forces to prepare for war with the Brutii (The Scipii are a little bit further away).

I too am using the House of Julii. I've conquered Spain, the Gauls as well and just conquered Rome. Now I'm in a whole heap of trouble cause the other Roman factions have all declared War on me!

During battles, I like to have my large catapults firing long range fire missiles at the enemy for a couple of minutes until it draws them on to the battle field.

Then as the enemy advances, I have my three archer units spray them with fire arrows. As they charge, my Urban Cohorts charge them, hold them off, and I have my Cavalry charge in with a wedge formation and scatter the enemy army.

The enemy is still getting showered by my archers and they start to waiver and flee. That's when my Cavalry picks off all the rest. Really fun to see your plans come together in this game. Gives extra satisfaction.

I actually had doubts about playing it at first. My newphew bought it b/c he had played the old Total War games and said he liked them. I watched him play the first week it came out and wasn't really interested. But when I tried it, I was hooked.

This game has taken up three or four (I dont even remember) of my weekends which I should have been studying and doing HW. I've beaten the Julii campaign and Egyptian campaign and is halfway through the Brutii Campaign on very hard. But I had to uninstall it so I can catch up on my schoolwork. Probably won't be seeing any action till Thanksgiving holiday. -.-

I love the smell of roasted elephant in the evening!

How much does the difficulty actually scale up as a matter of interest? I mean... easy is trivially easy... is normal a challenge at all? What about hard & very hard?

I play on normal settings. Didn't bother with easy cause that's effortless. Haven't tried hard yet. Normal isn't really difficult but the AI makes some reasonable moves on the map and in battle. They don't do off the wall stuff but use some decent strategy against you.
