There is a good reason for that, if you wanna make and sell a game are you gonna make it only available for the small percentage of ethusiasts out there? Or would you rather try and sell more copies of the game by making it compatible with cheap Dell and HP systems? See the fact is the bulk of computer users out there have a GF4MX, R9200, FX5200, or Intel integrated graphics. Games have to be runable on these systems if they're gonna sell, and that's what's wrong with 3dmark05. It not only ignores ALL your other systems specs outside of the video card, it's completely unrealalistic in the world of gaming. 3dmark2k1 and 2k3 are probably a more realalistic assesments considering most games are still DX8, or better still simple real world gaming benchmarks like UT2004 would do the trick. In fact if Epic games ever made their own free, downloadable, widely distributed benchmark based on the Unreal 2004 engine I would fully endorse it! And vice versa if Futuremark ever made their own games I would fully avoid them!

4368 - pretty lackluster score but I guess I can expect that with the 61.77 drivers. I get good performance in actual games with these and I will not give up my stereo 3D support, especially in WoW, just to get a bigger score in 3DMark05. Hopefully Nvidia will have some official drivers out before I hit retirement age. I really like the demos though, especially the one with the large sea creature.

PC Specs:

FX-53 (S940)
6800 Ultra 425/1200
1GB system memory
61.77 drivers
The 61.77 driver is indeed lackluster in this bench compared to these newer beta leaked drivers. The best I have seen is the 66.70. I am still using the 66.51 myself.

The top scores in the thread seem to be related to the highest graphics card OC as well. The fellow with 485 on his Ultra core is into 6k. It is hard to get a feel for scores though because there is no one base setting (default) that is being used by people benching. You can gain near 200 pnts by setting your driver from quality to high performance and defeating AA/AF by turning them off. Add to this that some fellows are even manually increasing mip LOD. It makes the reported scores near worthless if they aren't qualified.

Why people keep droning on about the CPU is beyond me. Yes ,you need good support for your graphics card. However if you look at one test done through the CPU for 2.9 FPS at 640, the same test done on the GPU at 1024 for 26+FPS you understand where I am coming from. Video card OC owns all.

Someone should start a quality bench thread, if the mods wouldn't freak. I understand some people are not buying the application so we could test 1024x768, quality driver settings and 4xAA/8xAF set from the driver control panel as default. If anyone is interested in seeing those results go for it.

Malficar, I get pretty much the same results with cpu at 1.6 or 3.2, so I agree with you. I'm benching to test stability and watch the purty slideshow, I haven't seen anyone here make too much of a contest, I'm actually suprised at how civilized this thread is! In any event, you illustrate very that a contest you be near pointless.

First run with 66.70s: 5360 on a P4 system. Damn, wait till I plug in my NF7-S rig! Or put my X800XT PE in that DFI NF3 250 GB board I just got. Tho' heaven knows when I'll afford an FX chip. Current rig:

IS7-E
2.40C at 292 fsb (3.5 gig), 5:4, 2.5-2-2-5
Ballistic PC3200 at 2.7 VDIMM
Asus 6800 Ultra at default clock (does 459/1.18 on stock cooling )

Understood. I wasn't interested in a contest, more of seeing how systems scale when they are running the bench at a baseline/default. You can't draw much information for score vs system if people bench with entirely different driver settings and application settings. The fact that there is such a glaring difference in the nVidia beta drivers and the 61.77's isn't helpful either. I was simply making a point with all the variables in a system ,scores are further skewed by not benching at a default value. I guess I believe these threads are good for sharing information/ system comparisons when there is a bench or measurement being used at a default value.

I appreciate it when people behave civilized and mature as well. Benches are interesting for testing. I pay more attention to measurements of dynamic game play than I do these tests.

I wouldn't suggest people ignore their CPU/Ram. Just that folks exaggerate its contribution/role in regard to other factors, particularly the video card.

Still 3dmark05 is very interesting bench and fun to watch. I think it is very well done.
