Thumbs up 3-D Stereo Gaming Bliss

Well I finally got my wireless Edimensional 3D glasses today and went ahead and installed the the 61.76 stereo drivers after going back to the 61.76 display drivers (apparently they both need to match to make it work)

Games I tested on my 6800 Ultra were Call of Duty, Painkiller, and UT2K4 all running at 1280x960. Far Cry is a bigger performance killer but I was able to lay it at 1024x768 which is still on par with HDTV levels. Since the video card has to basically render two frames at once this takes a big bite out of video card performance but the 6800 Ultra is still playable at the resolutions I tested at. Having a high refresh rate on my Mitsubishi 2070SB also keeps me from getting a headache. I have to say this makes these games feel new again and is something that has to be seen in action to be appreciated.

Unfortunately Doom 3 has lighting issued in 3D as everything is dark, even with the lights on on my 6800 Ultra. Apparently this is a NV40 issue and I hope there will be a driver fix for it later.

Now I may go and install some older titles like Alice, Undying, and maybe try out Dark Age of Camelot with it.

Well I am going to have to wait for a fix from Nvidia for that unless someone figures out a workaround for the problems that others, including me, have been reporting with the 6800 cards.

I am not sure what would be considered the bare minimum as it may impact one person different from another. From threads I have read at 3D Stereo forums it seems 85Hz is the bare minimum as you are actually experiencing 1/2 the stated rate, or 42.67Hz in this case since the video card is drawing two screens at once.

For me on my Mitsubishi 2070SB I am running games at 1024x768@150Hz, 1280x960@120Hz, or 1600x1200@100Hz.

For me personally I would probably not try to run anything less than 100Hz.

I have had those same glasses for a little over a year now, and I love them. A lot of games mix 2d and 3d items and they don't play well with stereo, but a lot of games are simply incredible. Take Motocross madness 2. Perfect in Stereo, with surround sound and a forcefeedback joystick. My friends go "whoa!" and start to get out of their chair when coming down off of a big jump, bracing for impact. Totally funny to watch. MW4 is incredible too.

Games that are very dark, like Doom3, will suffer as there is a lot of ghosting, double images. AvP suffers as well.

I would say that 100hz refresh is the minimum for comfortable play. My monitor only supports 100hz at 1024x768, so I am stuck at that res. Any higher and the flicker is noticable.

Love my glasses though. Can't wait for my 6800U!

Just tried the NFSU demo and it looks great in 3D. I may have to buy this game since it is only $20 right now.

I also tried out Max Payne - I was shocked to see it is playable at 2048x1536 in 3D!

Been playing Painkiller in 3d on my mitsubishi 2070 as well. It rocks! Stakegun in 3d is awesome!
You should also try Colin Mcrae 04. Excellent in 3d.

2 problems for me though...

Can't figure out how to get the 3d crosshair to work. Farcry works in 3d but I cant hit anything without a crosshair.

Doom 3 doesn't work in 3d....well not really.
Everything goes black except for a few lights. :sry

Yes... I have to echo this.

I just picked a pair of 3D eXtreme glasses off of eBay new for $34.95. I had not messed with 3D since my original Wicked3D VooDoo2 cards...

WOW!!!! I booted up Call of Duty, installed the no-crosshair mod, and I was BLOWN AWAY! Unbelievable immersion.... and when running refresh at 120mhz or above (I was running 144mhz with 1088x612 on my 24" Sony W900) absolutely no flicker. I did not even experience any eyestrain. Truly amazing.

A few questions though: Are there any good 3D gaming forums where users share experiences, tweaks, etc.?? Also... I too can't get Doom3 to work correctly as I have a 6800Ultra. How do we report driver bugs to Nvidia so they know? I could not find a link anywhere.

Painkiller may be the best 3D experience I have had so far.
