I used to see here that there's no reason to if your using a 2.6 kernel but now with the latest drivers it says in the release highlights:
"Added support for 2.6 series kernels" Does that mean I should install them? I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe with a 2.6.8.1 kernel. |

No need whatsoever...
You just need to use a =>2.6.8 kernel.

These days it might be an advantage again to install install the sound part of the nforce drivers (other parts are fine in the kernel). Before the sound driver was quite basic (was based on the i810 ac97 driver). The current nforce sound driver bundled in the driver package is based on the windows driver (unfortunately closed source) but it is way more advanced than the opensource alsa/oss drivers. It can utilize soundstorm if you have it.
