Default 9800XT OC Utility...

Is everyone using overdrive via the driver with these or is there a better utility out there to manually control core and RAM speeds? If so, what's the best one to use?

If you use a 3rd party OC utility, should you disable overdrive in the driver?

RadLinker is the best utility for overclocking and tweaking ATI cards. You can either get just the overclocking program (called RadClocker) or the full RadLinker utility, which includes such things as a game profile manager.

I just got radlinker today for my 9700, and I definitely dig it...

...on a related note, rivatuner has good radeon support now, right?

Not the last time I tried it. That was a while ago, but I've found Radlinker to be so useful I don't care to try anything else.

Take a wild guess at to what tweak utility I would recommend.

Damn... I should've been more patient. I installed rage3dtweak before learning about radlinker. FWIW, I haven't had any issues so far. Running the XT @ 430/380 right now and it seems stable so far. No artifacts.

Is it worth it to remove rage3dtweak and put radlinker on instead or should I leave well enough alone?

'Nother question for everyone. Now that I overclocked the XT a bit my 3dmark03 scores went up 250 points - but 3dmark2001 hasn't budged. Does that make any sense? Is 3dmark2001 CPU limited on my machine??

No, im sure that your 3Ghz P4 is not the problem. It could be a heat build up, what sort of cooling does your case have?

EDIT: I use rage3d tweak to overclock my 9600XT

It doesn't make any sense because my case is plenty cool. I'm not even entirely certain the overclock is actually taking effect. One thing that happened when I installed rage3dtweak: my overdrive tab in display properties disappeared. It's not there any more, and I didn't turn it off before installing rage3dtweak. So it's possible that it is still somehow turned on and is interfering with the o/c.

Tonight I'm going to push the o/c up a few notches, say to 440/390 and see what happens. If my scores still don't move... then I think it's not really o/c the card. At that point I'll remove rage3dtweak, hopefully the overdrive tab comes back so I can then turn it off, and then install radlinker.

Strange eh?

Radlinker is better in my opinion. It also provides application profiles and you can even set the overclock settings per game (I think). I can't really overclock my AIW so I haven't been paying that much attention to the oc'ing part of Radlinker so that's why I'm unsure.

There is also a tool called ATITOOL that will automatically try to determine the highest overclock for your card. I only played around with it briefly so I don't know much more about it.

I use Radclocker which comes with Radlinker to overclock my 9800Pro from 378/338 to 380/340.

Then when I feel I need the extra speed for some game (which is rare), I will overclock using Powerstrip to 412/365
