Well sadly, the missing dx9 features are nothing but nv's fault. there is a way to force it, but it runs much slower so it's really not worth it.

Ill tell you what is crap, the hit dection. This is the only game where I can fire a full clip 3 feet away and not hit the person once
You sure your that close, and that the gun isn't hopping all over the place... short controlled bursts depending on the gun and the range. If you have your weapon under control and it's still not detecting properly that would be a huge concern for me. On the other hand I'm sure if it's off it would be at the top of the bug fix list...

The graphic compared to Doom 3 or Far Cry is complete crap. There are HDR effects, pixel shader effects here there, nothing special.

The game is crapppppppppppppppppppppppp...
Counter strike has never been about the graphics for me. Looking at the pics from Jakubs post, it looks fine. Counter Strike is just the funnest mp game I have ever played, and I've played all the quakes and unreals. The learning curve or success curve is a bit steep, you need patience and good control over you nades, flashes and weapon kick before you can really start enjoying it.

There are many people obsessed with playing it and are extremely good, so it can be a bit frustrating at first on some servers...

Vanz

ps. wished they'd change the flashes from bright white to black so it doesn't irritate your eyes...

Personally, I like it. The fact that it runs an average of 90fps is pretty nice too.

Not saying your wrong about Nvidia, but how come Doom3 can use the 5950 to full potential and not HL2?

I've been looking for a tech comparison on the 2 engines, didn't find any review comparisons yet.

Doom3 is opengl. Half-Life 2 is Direct3d. Doom3 does not use any Directx 9 features. Half-Life 2 uses DirectX 9 features that run very slow on NV3X hardware (5200-5950) ATI hardware (9500-9800xt) are much better on DirectX 9 games. If you notice, FarCry also runs in DirectX8 mode on your card. It just doesn't tell you.

As someone who's played CS religously, I can say that the graphics played absolutely no part in making the game great. I can also say that CS: Source was meant for two things....to tie over loyal fans of Valve until they finished HL2, and to sell Condition Zero, since the beta was the ONLY reason to buy that game =\ CS Source basically serves as a window in to the reality of what would have happened if CS would have been released a few years later, but it's nothing especially great. Same way that the re-release of the first Resident Evil was. Cool, but nothing special or even necessary.

I am having a total blast with CS:Source and have always hated it in the past. Graphically I think it's great for a port. Almost every texture in the game has some sort of shader applied to it. Performance is great too, 1280x960 w/ 4xAA 16xAF (HQ in the CP) 60fps average with fire fights only dropping into the 40's.

So is it safe to say since doom3 can use advanced features/shaders with opengl then directx9 (microsoft) could partially be the blame for a poorly executed API?

I don't play farcry, but I've heard about the dx8 thing before.

I'll wait for the 6600/6700 line of NV card I suppose, I dont want to sink another $300+ into a card, I can't even get a year out of them now.

No, Doom 3 just doesnt use the effects DX9 has.
