Default Linux 2.6.8.1 Install problems

i cant get The latist Nvidia linux driver to install. when i launch it i get some error. is there a quide for this? last time i tryed linux i got the driver to work with 2.6.5 but it wont work now...

**EDIT** Here is the error exactly:
ERROR: If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the appropriate nvidia-installer command line option.

is your /usr/src/linux symlink correct?

I don't think the nvidia-installer looks for /usr/src/linux specifically.

What I think it does is, it looks at the /lib/modules/(kernel-version)/build symlink,
or /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build

For instance:

[frozen@frozen ~]$ ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22 Oct 8 04:13 /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/build -> /usr/src/linux-2.6.8.1

Make sure this symlink exists too, and that you've done 'make menuconfig' in the linux source directory. If you backed up your .config file (which you should do), be sure to re-copy it into the source directory.
