Default 6800 Ultra win in Xbit's CS: Source benchmarks

This is very interesting...

Nvidia have the crown in Doom 3 last time and it seem this time Nvidia got the crown in CounterStrike: Source, ATI X800 XT PE lose to Nvidia 6800 Ultra in 30 benchmarks, X800 XT PE won just 11 out of 30 benchmarks and 6800 Ultra won 19 out of 30 benchmarks.

It will be very interesting to see who will have the crown in Half Life 2 next month, I think it will be very close call.

We all knew that nVidia has better shader model support than ATi. I just feel sorry for ATi after this whole disaster.

yes, ati does lose when its in lower resolutions and no aa/af usually, but 1600x1200 at 4x/16x is all I care about which ATI does win in....

Disaster? Where do you get this? ATI wins where it matters, 1600x1200 w/ 4xAA and 16xAF. That is what everyone with high end cards would like to play at. I personally think that the X800XT will have a nice lead over the 6800 Ultra in Half Life 2. As for shader performance the NV40 appears to be a little better per clock but not enough to keep up with the HUGE fill rate difference.

If you notice ATi's card at 1600x1200 4xaa 16xaf only wins in half the tests, so like Far Cry the cards are even.

Who in their right mind would train HR people with Counter-Strike? hahaha. That's almost as bad as the SpecOps training they were doing with a modified Duke Nukem.

Indeed it a disaster, it too late for ATI to wait for X800 XT PE wide available until it ready to official launch, now it October time for refresh. Now X800 XT and 6800 Ultra are ready available to buy now in time for CounterStrike: Source and Half Life 2 next month.

6800 Ultra have fill rate of 6400M Pixels and X800 XT have fill rate of 8000M Pixels, indeed that a huge fill rate difference but in CounterStrike: Source's 1600x1200 w/ 4xAA and 16xAF benchmarks, 6800 Ultra have a nice lead over X800 XT. In 5 benchmarks, X800 XT won 1 benchmark, 6800 Ultra won 3 benchmarks and a draw in Havana Level benchmark, hardly a huge fill rate difference.

Both cards look good. I wouldnt call it a win on either side. Its more like a tie. Its good to see the competition running so close together.

All I know is the x800 pro loses to the 6800 GT in the majority of those tests, so i'm happy with deciding to keep this card over the pro.

Once 3dc is intergrated, these results will favor ati. Valve has really botched up everything ati had in their partnership, so trust me, come HL2, Ati's drivers will be tweaked to perfection for the game, 3dc will be incorporated, and nvidia will trail behind...but not by far.

This is the first generation of cards in a long time where you can honestly buy whatever either company has and have a great product. x800 pro, 6800 gt, x800 xt/xt-pe, 6800 ultra/Uee....no matter what you buy, it's solid. But trust me, once HL2 ships, ati will have the edge in this game..Valve owes them that much. It's just like doom 3 with nvidia...but the results wont favor ati as greatly.

Dont forget Shader Model 3 will be included in the patch release soon after Half Life 2 hit the stores. I doubt we will see Half Life 2 benchmarks next month with ATI's 3Dc and Nvidia's Shader Model 3 beta just like it did with Far Cry patch 1.2.
