If you look at these results...then look at doom3 results..i think the clear winner here is nvidia imo. The lead ati has over nvidia in some of those tests at 1600 res is like 5 fps..woopie.

Whats more sad is, i dont think anyone in mind plans to play cs source at that high resoultion..i mean think about it..such tiny heads, i my self switch between 800 and 1024 res, beleave me 800 res is more nice, but even with 4xaa/8xaf on 800 graphics are **** lol.

Its good to see the GT kicking the XTPE ass in some of the tests.

Yeah because everyone plays games at 1600*1200 with 4xFSAA.

As for shader performance the NV40 appears to be a little better per clock but not enough to keep up with the HUGE fill rate difference.
every1?
not me,i got an 6800ultra,but i didnt buy it to play on 1600x1200.
alot of games, specialy online MMORPGs etc... have alot of action,so a high end card is needed sometimes just to run 1024x768 etc... with AA/AF and eye candy on.

Well, any way we look at it ; the X800XT PE most likely wins at high res eye candy settings in HL2.

Should Nvidia 6800 card owners feel owned becuz of that ? That's up for you to say when the game finally ships and we can see for ourselves how it will run on the Nvidia cards ...

For myself is Splinter Cell 3 Chaos Theory # 1 game, which is optimized for NV40's sm3.0, so HL2 isn't even top priority to me.

Well if they dont they may as well game with 6xfsaa and we all know how well Nvidia handles its mixed fsaa modes over 4xfsaa

Whatever way you look at it the X800XT PE wins IMO overall, I mean its fast enough to do 1600x1200 6xfsaa 16xaf in cs sources and Im pretty sure that would still be faster than 1280x1024 8xs 16xaf on the 6800 ultra.

The X800XT and 6800 ultra are not in competition based on price, and in terms of availabity based on valves half life 2 survey if anything more X800XT PEs have been sold than 6800 ultras.

I think this thread's been polluted by ATI fanboys. Look, the benchmarks clearly show that both cards perform very evenly with each other. I don't understand the obsessive need to have a virtual pissing content with one another, both nVidia and ATI cards of this generation are extremely powerful. And sorry, I don't run anything in 1600x1200, because frankly I can't tell the difference between 1280x1024 & 1600x1200, and I like the extra fps and image quality the slightly lower resolution affords. Most people I know don't run anything above 1024x768.

Me 2. 1600x1200 with every game I can. It's my LCDs native resolution and even when I owned a CRT (21") I used 16x12 if I could.

Well, I have a 19" CRT, and I prefer the higher refresh rates of lower resolutions. 16x12 maxes at 70hz, which causes a lot of screen tearing and isn't as easy on the eyes, but 12x10 maxes at 85hz, which seems to be a sort of "sweet spot" for my setup. Plus, with 4xAA, I can't see the pixels anyway.

yes it's true, HL2 will support SM3.0 but not shortly after the release of the game. Expect a SM3.0 patch for HL2 next year when ATI releases its own SM3.0 hardware.
