20% eh? I still haven't seen proof of that claim.

Valve's answering the questions and they didnt mention where that 20% comes from. Im sure thats just from the stress test. I doubt in actual gameplay we will see that much. Remember all the money Ati Payed to Valve and thats why you wont see any nVidia cards recommended in their recommended pc's

Reduced bumpmapping on the TI4200? That sucks. And why are they disabling bumpmapping on the DX7 path? Last I checked, a GF1 card from 1999 could do bumpmapping
. Also they are a bit wrong: the "20% better performance" on ATI cards only applies to the x800pe vs. the 6800u: the x800pro and 6800gt are neck-and-neck going by the stress test (which I doubt is a very good indicator of HL2 performance anyway). |

This is good news for my friend with a 1.5Ghz Athlon, 256mb, and a Radeon 9600.
20% seems kinda high. My guess is thats only during extreme situations when there is a huge draw distance and many shaders are used. |

I generally lurk around here and dont post much as you can see . So I am a
This is ATI $$$$ at work here. Valve said that the VST is the toughest workout a video card is going to get ,but a 6800U can get 90fps easy at 1600x1200 4xaa,16xaf which means that the game is going to be really cpu limited. I see no way that X800 being 20% faster in game. Maybe in benchmarks it will be but who really plays a benchmark Also while HL2 has a few gee-whiz features in graphics the major draw of the game is the realistic physics. From the screens the graphics seem okayish. So it all points to being pretty cpu limited. Maybe they should have taken some money from Intel or AMD which would lead to some truth in their statements. Anyway CS source was pretty disappointing . I was expecting something a bit more innovative than that but I guess valve didnt want to alienate all those 12 year olds with pentium IIs. I am really crossing my fingers and hoping that HL2 wont disappoint like Cs source or the engine demo called Doom 3. The reviews have lifted my spirit up on this game a bit though ![]() |
