Thumbs down Re: FarCry 1.3 - OpenEXR HDR, 3dc, SM3.0 by default, more!

CryTek is lame , not to mention they need half a year to release a patch even then you need to look for commands to enter in console to get any eye candy benefits , i guess it would take them full year to add Check Box in Option Menu on/off feature screw FarCry

Personally, I prefer this link since it directly links us to the developer's post.

Seems to me that they WILL be using the 64bit FP FrameBuffer acctually, and THAT is the reason.. (opposed to the regular 32bit INT FB)
Guess that means that after the rendering, the image is stored as 64bit where it usually is 32bit.

But there are some drawbacks: With 64 bit framebuffer, no multisampling antialiasing is supported. This is due to limited bandwidth. FP64 alone (without antialiasing) should be slow enough, but we haven't seen any such demos yet, so perhaps nVidia will surprise us.
OpenEXR textures might be in FP16 format (64bit) aswell, opposed to the classic 32bit (INT) textures we are used to.
FP textures, another NV40 feature..

He mentioned FP32 blending. That would be more HDR than Timbury.

* Normal Map Compression. Requirements: NVidia: Geforce FX Family or better, ATI: x800 card or better. This feature is disabled by default. To enable it, type r_TexNormalMapCompressed 1 in the console after loading a level. Enabling this feature during the game may take some time - the PC may appear to freeze. This variable will not be saved when restarting the game. Enabling normal map compression will have prolonged execution the first time running through a level due to initial compression phase occurring in real time through the level. Subsequent reloads of the same level will yield better performance and therefore we recommend that you run any benchmark twice and to take the second of the two runs for benchmarking purposes since this most closely represents the usual user experience. (my note: this should be 3dc for x800 cards and dxt5 for FX/6800 cards)

* SM 3.0 and SM 2.0x are now enabled by default when graphics settings are set to ‘Very High’. To see performance increases you must have Direct X 9.0c installed.

* Improved tangent-space calculation to improve bumpmap quality.

* Anisotropic filtering disabled for some textures (light-maps, several lookup textures, fall-off maps) for increased performance.

* OpenEXR HDR Lighting. Requirements: NVidia GeForce 6 Family or better. This feature is disabled by default. To enable it set the r_HDRRendering parameter to 1. Not compatible with anti-aliasing.
hey,Ruined, where did you get this patch release note? I can't find on Farcry official forum. Until now, the only official statemnt about farcry patch 1.3 is here:

Ok, those shiny beach rocks.. Hmm... It must be one of the examples of parallax mapping we have implemented. Enabled by default. There might be a problem however- sometimes the LOD on uneven surfaces is rendered incorrectly and that might cause the rocks disapear at some distance depending on the content.

Default Another HDR confirmation

I had an opportunity to check out the patch today and can confirm that while HDR was missing from the patch notes, it is in the patch. It is a beta feature, but should work fine on NV40 or any upcoming next gen Nvidia product.

Thats cool. Now i'm pissed that i didn't keep my 6800 GT.
You think a plain 6800 128 MB will be able to run the game at a decent frame rate with these effects enabled? I think i can afford a card like that.
Something to to before HL2 ships.
