you're not missing much....seeing as the patch has no actual release date and has been "in progress" for months.

you my friend again are not seeing the whole picture. just like it happened to you with Doom3. what is more interesting is not the progress or lack of progress of this patch. but that this kills the myth that "there is nothing that can be done ,that X800 hardware can't do..bla bla.. is completely false" and that this is just the begining of things to come not the end of it ,since many other games (some not yet announced) will support the latest Sm3.0+ features in their games. SplinterCell and Unreal3 are just quick examples of games that developers already have told they are working on Sm3.0 and OpenExR effects in their games..

And theres no way Unreal3 will run @ 1024X768 no aa/af on a 6800Ultra...even an ultra/ee.
Second, if you go to the pcgaming rage3d forums, their explaining how x800 hardware can do openexr. =)

And finally for a guy like me, who just wants to play games at the best I.Q possible...getting the patch out is the big picture. I dont care what card does what, so long as whatever my card does do, has those features working as promised by the developer.

then there should be some kind of conspirancy againts ATI..
because -NO- games in the future that im aware that will support true HDR will work the effects on the X800 line.

ater reading the thread in rage3d they were talking about spoofing the effect (ie not using true 64 FB HDR)... but they feel that that is okay because real HDR loses AA... I dunno, Timbury looked nice without AA...

ATI can I think do HDR but not framebuffer blending which speeds up HDR rendering. So if ATI cards did HDR rendering in a game lets say..it wouldn't run as fast as cards which support frame buffer blending? I maybe wrong...but thats teh way i understand it. If I am wrong please correct me.

The X800 *can* do frame buffer blending.. least, that's what I thought. As I understand it, it's just that the accumulation buffer (for blending) on the ATi cards doesn't have high enough precision for true OpenEXR HDR. At least, that's the way I understand it... but on that, I could be wrong, and would be happy to be corrected. I'm really not as knowledgeable about the R420 as I should be.

Edit: Apologies, it seems you're right. Looked it up, and the 420 can do true OpenEXR HDR... but it has to use pixel shaders to do so. I'm still fairly certain it can do a reduced qual version natively though.

Ridiculous DOES not have an 'e' in it. It comes from "ridicule" and has less than nothing to do with the colour red.

Your confusing things. This version of HDR != PS3.0. OpenEXR HDR is not the only form of HDR out there....

I think i'm gonna join ultimate17 over at the ubi forums and start bitching at the ubi people. What a sad show this patch story has become. Release it already!!
But i guess NVIDIA and ATI are the ones we should blame. FarCry has become a tech demo for them to demonstrate their funky new cards with and yadayadayada. No wonder it's taking so long.

True. HDR doesn't equal PS 3.0.

At the same time (and entirely unrelated to shader versioning), the only other current time feasible ways of doing HDR are lower precision than OpenEXR (to my knowledge).
