Default UT2004 Graphics Problem

Okay, I posted an issue about some rendering glitches with powercores and stuff a while back but nobody ever seemed to take any notice. Here are some screenshots.

The problem exists with an FX5200 card and also my new 6800GT. So the cards arent the problem here. The rendering is perfectly normal when these scenes are viewed in Windows or an ATI card on Linux. My old ATI Radeon 9000pro actually rendered these scenes exactly like the Windows screenshots below without these ugly glitches.
Also take note that the quality settings for both versions are turned on max, everything set at high quality. Game versions doesnt matter, 3323 and older versions all exhibit the same problem, and again the ATI card along with its crappy fglrx driver actually renders these normal like in Windows.

Okay, first up, the Power cores.
Notice how the Windows one looks normal and how the Linux one looks like a stupid domed ugly thing.

Windows:

Linux:

Next we have some Grass.
Notice how fuzzy it looks in the Linux screenshot and how real it looks in the Windows screenshot.

Windows:

Linux:

Last, we have the sky. You dont need to even ask what the problem is here.

Windows:

Linux:

Okay, now that we have the facts, nVidia needs to really look into this. It seems nobody has ever noticed this except me? Has anyone else been having the same problems? Or does anyone elses UT2004 look like this in Linux?

Some feedback would be very welcomed, including fixing the problem behind this.

What distro and kernel are you using? You need to make sure that the Nvidia driver is using the correct libraries, I use nvcheck.sh to do this, although it is an older program it might be able to point you in the right direction (just google for it). What does "glxinfo" show?

Exclamation Re: UT2004 Graphics Problem

Anyways I cant be the only one here that plays this game, I'm just wondering if anyone else is having the same problems with "downgraded" graphics in UT2004.

My driver installation is correct, I can play doom3 just fine. When I had a crappy ATI card with the fglrx driver, UT2004's visuals were just like the Windows screenshots, no downgraded crap. I'm not sure what is up.

looks like a problem with the texture align.

I play Ut2004 under Linux and all looks fine.

try 'nvidia-settings'

I even downloaded the demo of ut2004 and the same problem exists.
I seriously have no idea why. :/

Yup I have, turned off AA/AF, (normally i have it at 16X AF/4X AA), there isnt much else there thats settable relating to 3d graphics.

And yes, your screenshot looks perfectly normal. I'm thinking this might be more of a system library problem now then anything else. As I said, my crappy FX5200 has the same problem.

The nvcheck.sh is all clear too btw, had to edit it tho to make it work with an xorg.conf and the nvidia module tho.

Thanks for the help btw.

your linux screenshots contains the window titlebar. the F9 screenshot normally did not contain the titlebar - is that fullscreen ?

Nope, not fullscreen, but the problem exists in fullscreen or windowed mode. Since my system is suffering from the VIA chipset 6800 series OpenGL bug, I cannot take any ingame screenshots so I have to import them from a window instead. Though my old FX5200 took full screenshots just fine, of course I had the same downgraded features as above.

I played ut2004 in linuxand m$. I don't see any problems with it so you must have configured something wrong.

Which card do you have?

The problem here is what could I possibly configure wrong?
Framerates are > 60fps, things are smooth and fast, details are maxed out as well as all the graphical options set. I basically tried everything there is to try.

*sigh*

I play ut2004 on linux with my Ti4600 no problems. If the card wasn't a new model I'd say to try an older version of the driver, but you can't with the 6800's. It's obviously not the card since it happend with another nvidia card also. You should post this question with the screen shots on the ut2004@icculus.org mailing list. Ryan Gordon watches it and he's the guy who did the ut2004 linux port. It's worth a shot anyway.

Okay, this is a driver problem with FX5xxx and 6 series cards. It has been confirmed. I didnt think I was crazy just yet.
Its perfectly fine with TI's and older MX's.
