Default Re: FlatOut Demo (RIP NFSU2)

Just played it for a while and it is every bit as good as I expected

The performance is amazing. Im playing at 1600x1200 max AF and 4x AA and it runs very smooth. It isnt perfectly smooth, but I barely even noticed the framerates at these settings which means they are good enough for me (ill exit a game emediatly and change something if the frame rate is bothering me).

The graphics are AWESOME. Best looking racing game ive ever played. This is partly due to the high frame rates while still looking great. No matter how good a game looks, if its a slide show, it looks like crap to me.

Controls are a bit twitchy but one thing that really made a HUGE difference for me was racing in first person view (bumper cam). It seems to be the best camera angle for this racing style. The others dont give enough response as to what the car is doing so it makes the controls harder to manage.

The sound could be better, the engine sounds arent very good at all. They sound like rally cars. I dont know if the demo car is supposed to be a 8 (or even 6) cylinder but it sure doesnt sound like it.

The pain\hurting sounds are taken right from other games. Some from Carmageddon, so it makes the body flying part less exciting since ive already heard the sounds a million times before.

The physics are amazing. Im REALLY impressed with that part... especially how well it runs even on my mid range CPU with dozens of objects flying around at once. I havent noticed a single slow down from physics.

The tracks seem pretty good once you get the hang of them (and use the bumper cam). And I LOVE the freedom. It takes a lot of wandering to finally get to the invisible barrier (which you'll probably hit rather hard).

The body launching game is AWESOME. It is soooo much fun. I cant wait to try the rest of them!

Im so glad this game is going to be at my house in a few days, this is everything I expected it to be.

Ive only played the demo and i give it 10\10

See there for my first impressions. It has some fairly major control issues, but still looks promising.
I agree with you there. However it looks great, runs great, and the physics make it quite interesting. Control issues should be the easiest thing to correct before the release.

Man... the highjump thing is extremely fun... at first I didn't realize why I kept failing... but after I understood what I was supposed to do it is awesome and fun... right now my record is 208.55 meters.

Yes the high jump is ALOT of fun

Controls are a little on the loose side for my tastes, but I havent really had time to play since I'm playing on a demo machine at work..lol
The graphics and physics are incredible however. I cant wait to try the bowl style destruction derby areans :-D!

My copy is on the way...

Yeah... the controls bothered me at first... but I think that was because of the dirt track I first played on... when I played on the second track the controls felt great and I had a lot of fun (way more than I expected).

When is this game coming out?
Are we going to be able to buy upgrades for cars (I am assuming you can buy cars since in the demo the only car is listed as being 8 grand :\)?

Sorry for the questions :\.
