Default NV30 news here!

I thought we need this one back to the forums

So to the point, here's some news:

.13u process

AGP 8x support

DDR2 Memory support

Vertex Shaders beyond DirectX9 VS2.0 - supporting up to 1024 static instructions, 65536 instructions executed in loops, branches, and subroutines

Pixel Shader beyond DirectX9 PS2.0 - with up to 1024 instructions

Support for OpenGL and DirectX HLSL via Cg

OpenGL Extensions supporting long Pixel Shader & Vertex Shader programs

High Precision (64- and 128-bit Floating Point color)

New focus on computational efficiency rather than memory efficiency

Advanced programmability and high-level shading language support

Expected this fall along with DirectX9

EDIT: And it has 256 bit memory bus (http://www.nvmax.com/Articles/Previe..._SNEAK_PREVIEW)

I've also heard that there will be 17 different nv30 chips (!!) correct me if I'm wrong.

Where did you here this? I would think there would be a few variations if you count Workstation market, rendering market (new market), High end Desktop market, Midrange, and eventually budget market.

Im not sure how quick nvidia will be to release a budget DX 9 part, something thats in a reasonable price range anyway. The Radeon 9000 brings DX to the masses, Looks like it maybe a little to expensive to have a budget DX 9 chip at moment. TO think about it not that it really matters considering how Software development has to catch up with the hardware anyways.

Also isnt the NV31 rumoured to be slower than the NV30 any thoughts?

No idea.

R300 was a good effort, but if nv30 is anything like what it's rumored to be, ATI gets OWNED.

Hehe Funny pic, I guess it comes down to what means fast or better. Will NV30 perform faster and better than R300 in current games, applications and benchmarks? to do so would surely rely on a good memory subystem.

Either a 256bit memory interface or greatly improved efficency either one or both coupled to DDR2 memory should prove to be formidable for Nvidia giving the Hardware specs attuned to it.

I heard it was about 12. Just think 3 for mobile/laptops 3 for normal desktop (hi-end) 3 for desktop (mianstream) and 3 for workstation and there you have it, 12 chips.

are the 12 chips all the chips that will be based upon nv30 or just the first gen nv30 chips?

A little off-topic:

Don't you think ATi is a little bit stupid for not releasing 9500 next month? Because 9500 arrives about the same time as nv30 and nv30 will have (rumors) budget cards (dx9 (not some crappy gf4mx type of things )) that (I think) will kick r9500's ass...

I'm not going to buy a 9700 because it costs too much and I think many people think about the same...

I really hope that Nvidia brings another gf4ti4200 version of nv30 to the xmas season, but if they don't they're gonna lose me and probably others as customers...

Just my 2 cents

The ti4200 was great. It would be a shame if NV didn't release something similar.

$700 CDN for a vid card doesnt appeal to me.

I don't work at NV or anything but I would say they will be releasing cards like Ti4600, Ti4400, Ti4200 in each section like the GF4.
