Just for a "me too", I get this problem with 66.29 and Cedega 4.1.1, running Guild Wars on a fx5700 256MB-based card. Have my apeture set (in bios) to 256MB, both cedega settings set to 256MB as well.

yep cedega 4.1.1-1 didn't fix it, the problem came about with the new nvidia driver...

maybe zander will pay attention to this thread? considering these messages came about only because of the new driver... and not because of new software? ...

The problem is understood and will be addressed. As Spyke observed, it isn't specific to Cedega.

The attached patch should fix this problem.

# sh /path/to/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg0.run --extract-only
# cd NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629
# patch -p0 < /path/to/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-6629-1161283.diff.txt
# ./nvidia-installer

Does this patch help with a 2.4 kernel as well? I've had a NVRM related total system lockup on a 2.4 kernel recently (during normal desktop work, no OpenGL game - might have been an OpenGL screensaver, though, but definitely nothing as demanding as UT2K4 or DooM³), which hasn't happened for quite a while. Here's the syslog message:

@ZlatkO: no, that error condition is unrelated and won't be solved by this patch.

@zander: Wow, that was quick - thanks!

Well then, any hints on what might have caused that lockup? I'm not that fluent in hex code strings, unfortunately. As I said, I haven't had any nVidia related crashes for ages (a big fat THANKS! to the nVidia Linux driver development team seems to be appropriate here), so I really wonder what that was. Does it make any sense to apply that patch on a 2.4 kernel anyway, or is it a 2.6-only fix? TIA!

@ZlatkO: without more information it's hard to tell what caused that problem, and even with that information there's a number of possible root causes (system level problems (such as general instability, bad memory (and inherent data corruption), ACPI/APIC related issues, ...), unreliable bus transfers (e.g. due to bad AGP chipsets or certain AGP configuration parameters, ...), thermal problems, ..., and, naturally, driver bugs). The patch isn't Linux 2.6 specific; if you haven't seen any of the error messages above, you probably needn't apply the patch, but there's no reason not to.

Yeah, I thought so, but I still hoped that this might probably be some very specific error message with only a few specific possible causes. Oh well, thanks anyway!

Alright, I'll apply the patch then. Can't hurt, I guess. Thanks again!
