Black screen with nvidia 6629 driver

If this is nVidia's way of making people upgrade to newer GPU's, then I've got some rather simple solutions, too.

nVidia is really showing how much they care about their users right now... I mean, not even a statement saying they're working on it. Or did I miss something here?!

yes. the existance of a bug report utility has some speech here I think. The fact you get emails with replies if you send a bug report also does.

Questions
1. does anyone WITHOUT a VIA chipset have this issue?
2. does nVidia have some kind of public bug database?

I have k7s5a mainboard (sis735 chipset) and the same problem with TNT2 m64. My lspci:

Pajarico, was AGP disabled only with the new drivers, or has it always been like that? I doubt if the problems are entirely agp related, because even with agp completely disabled, you still don't get a correct display. With agp enabled, it only gets worse, with just a mouse cursor and few stray pixels getting drawn.

i'm having the same problem, the Nvidia logo don't go away and the X stay just like a snapshot posted before.
it occurres on MDK 10.1 (2.6.8.1-12), MDK-64bit-rc1 and on gentoo (2.6.9 dev-sources), my VGA is an mx440, actually, it happens with my father PC too, with the same VGA, but another mobo, and both uses chipsets VIA (good observetion 666_1337).

i hope they don't be long to fix the driver...

Did you do something special to get the AGP bus working? I've compiled the AGP support embedded in kernel and as modules, later did modprobe agpgart and amd64-agp, even toyed with aperture size, disabled/enabled fast write, changed from 2x to 4x in BIOS..... but NOTHING WORKED.

By the way, my mobo is also VIA based, thats why i suspected allthis was an AGP problem, because i heard that AGP-via was a bit tricky

No, AGP has always worked for me, both with the kernel's agpgart and NvAgp.

You might want to check the documention in /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README to check for any compatibility problems with your motherboard or processor..

Same problem here.

Getting the NVIDIA logo staying on screen problem. Cursor move.

Chipset: nForce 2 (shuttle SN41G2)
Video Card: GF4 MX440
Distro: Debian sid(unstable), kernel 2.6.8 & 2.6.9 tested.

Nothing in the README. Look like a buffer swapping problem... The first buffer is draw whith the nvidia Logo afterwards nothing is writting in the goods buffers or the swapping function is wrong.

My card is supported:

And my mobo is supported too, can use both nvagp driver and agpgart, but instead it doesn't use any.
