i think somebody is too much conservative when it comes to choose the AA and AF, i understand that for an highter frame score many would low AA and AF but when it come to play i think that something between 40 and 60 is really a good result for playing very well.

I have played with 1280*1024 on a xp2800+, 1GB of ram and 9800pro O.C. to XT with AA 6x and AF 16x

and now i read many with nv40 chips using settings lower then that???

ok anybody play the ways they prefere eheh is just that i really do not understand ehe

anyway i was one of the (few?) who was thinking HL2 was having a lower graphic than Doom 3... well after have seen it i have to say is really better than Doom3 ehe, and damn you have to see it at 6xAA+16xAF !!!

uffffff i want buy a new pc lol

a question: what happen if i set geometry istancing from CCC ? frames goes up or not?

This boy needs to eat so I'm taking a break. So far (aside from the slight pauses for caching - btw, anyone know which commands to enable in the .cfg file?) this game is all that and a bag of Gardettos. It's meeting and exceeding my expectations in every way, shape and form. The pacing is about perfect, the story/dialogue is outstanding, it's a visual spectacle, the physics are just cool...I could go on. I give it 9/10 so far. It would be a 10 if it wasn't for slightly long loading times and all the BS that's been going on with Steam.

I couldn't agree with you more actually, though I haven't had a single problem with Steam. The ridiculous load times are the only complaint I have now besides the occasional jitter.

I ran the game with forced DirectX 9, I am blowed away by incredible stunning graphics, I am very surprised it run very smooth and very playable with all options to the max on 1024x768 8xAF than it did on VST benchmark, sometime it paused cos I only have 512Mb RAM, I will upgrade my system to maybe 2Gb RAM next year.

Awesome, I can't even play. I get an hl2.exe terminal error whenever I try to load it up. I was running the Catalyst 4.10 drivers, so I updated to the 4.11's. No difference. Next, I set everything, CPU, RAM, video card back to stock speeds, still nothing. CS:S and HL:S work just fine. I guess I'm going to have to ****ing redownload it.

Im beyond amazed right now. This game is not just another FPS. It's the next step toward interactive fiction.
Name me one other shooter where you can pick up any object you see in the game, a glass for example, and throw it....shattering into pieces on the wall. I'm not talking manipulator cannon here, you actually use your HANDS! You can even throw a skull in the air and bat it away with the crowbar. They never showed you picking up stuff with your hands in the videos. I always thought you needed the manipulator gun.
Imagine the sports games that could use these physics...
And the graphics are mind blowing. Easily the best out there. And smmotrh as butter at 16x12 with 2aa 16as. Try that with Farcry!

Years from now people will still be playing this game, just like HL1 before it.
This game will be remembered long after Halo2 and the Xbox are forgotten.
