Default The unofficial video game and character Hall of Fame

When I have to get up super early for work, I sometimes get strange ideas running through my head. This was one of them. Looking back through our gaming history and heritage, across consoles and PCs, what games and game characters would make for good inductees into a Hall of Fame? And what ones might not get in the first time but would still deserve an honorable mention all the same? Here's a list I've come up with off the top of my head. It's by no means complete and I'm sure many of you won't agree with some of my choices, but that's where you come in - feel free to add and make suggestions for what might be changed or deleted.

Wheres Metal Gear Solid (or Metal Gear in general) and Solid Snake? MGS is what set stealth gameplay into motion, without it SC would have never be though of. Why is Halo in the HoF? It accomplishes nothing new for the FPS genre and actually takes acouple steps backwards.

Your list needs alot of tweaking but there are some that I can agree with full heartly.

Don't forget Tie Fighter - that should be an inductee (X-wing should go as honorable mention).

And here's another vote for Solid Snake and the MGS games - especially the first one.

Hmm...tough to pick...I like the way you slipped Ayane and Kasumi in there though

Anyway, I donno...picking a videogame character is really tough. There's certainly been quite a few memorable ones, Raziel from Soul Reaver was pretty cool. Although is Gordon Freeman really a character? I think of him more as a body you occupy when playing the Half-life games. I mean, the only time you even see him is on the game's box. Oh, and how could you leave out Sonic?

Umm, most people would disagree with you completely. It does far more than 95% of the FPS games out on the market, especially any ID game past Doom 1.

Pffft... Raziel was POOP compared to Kain from the LoK series .

But uhhh... what did halo do that more than "95% of the FPS games out on the market"?

Does every thread that even MENTIONS Halo have to turn into a debate about how it sucks? But if you must know, the integration of melee attacks, grenades, shields, and vehicles was done far better in Halo than it was in pretty much any other FPS at the time, and Halo 2 improves upon the forumula with vehicle damage, duel wielding, vehicle hijacking. It might not have done some of these things first, but it certainly did them best. It brought just as much to the table as games like UT and Farcry did. Though Tribes is often overlooked, as well.

Please tell me what Halo accomplished that no other FPS before it has accomplished? I can't think of anything original in the game.

NOLF does everything the original Halo accomplished but with more style and actually provided more veriaty of gameplay.

Let's also not forget the physics engine and the near complete lack of clipping. And also how Halo 2 has just become the best selling video game of all time.

...you're actually compairing NOLF to Halo? Yeesh, that's worse than the Halo 2 vs. HL2 comparisions...

Oh, and now that I think about it the lack of loading times are pretty nice, too. Wish Farcry allowed for streaming data while you played, some of those load times got annoying (and I hear HL2 is worse...)
