Thumbs down Re: I have Dial-Up [Half Life 2 Rant]

I wouldn't be suprised if HalfLife 3 needed monthly subscription fee to play it

LMAO

Ok, put this in perspective, I remember discussion about people wondering what to expect.

I think ALL this was expected, and it was VERY foolish to be all surprised that it was like this. However the original poster belongs in a JeffK ARTIKAL FOR TEH SUXX0RS BUNHGOLE VALVE DEVELOPARS!!!!!

People should've expected to not be able to play a game they bought? And I certainly didn't expect to need the disc in just to play a game that's fully installed and gets authenticated through Steam, what kind of sense does it make that the version of the game that would be HARDER to pirate is the one that needs the extra protection? Especially when ALL of Valve's previous games didn't require the discs to run over Steam.

I agree with the original poster. I would rather be playing my brand new store bought HalfLife 2 right now - but instead i'm coming to these forums to see if other people are experiencing the same problem as me.

I have Comcast cable internet and after installing all 5 discs, then entering the registration number - they're telling me their servers are busy now and cannot process my transaction.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. Oh and my brother-in-law just bought the game too. Guess what? He can't play it. His gaming computer isn't connected to the internet.

This is a step in the WRONG direction.

(this game better be un-fu#@ing believable)

but are the donuts and ATI related?

That is a BS rumour about Gabe having sex with plain doughnuts. It has been made public just recently that he admitted they were in fact chocolate eclairs that he was pumping like mad. Please get your story straight before spreading this nonsense.
Just up until a few weeks before HL2s release they were considering putting out a cream pack to go along with the bronze, silver and gold packs. The cream pack was supposed to include one of the chocolate eclairs Gabe had personally had sex with. And why was it going to be called the "cream pack" you ask? Well think about it...

ROFL.. might be. but apparently the hooker and the donut's aren't related, so ATi couldn't be either.

Heh, I'm on ADSL and still can't download the bugger after purchasing a Bronze package. I'm actually waiting for a certain release in order to play a game I've bought.

mmmmkay......I dunno about you guys but this is the reason I am waiting until the bandwidth-frenzie is over with before really purchasing HalfLife2. I for one, was expecting to get shafted by Valve over steam problems when getting HL2.

Given all of Valve's problems, I do think it was naieve to expect things to work.....

Setup was bad enough on broadband. The install took about 15 min to copy the data off the CD's. This is to be expected, since there is lots of cool content to copy, from five CDs no less... Any normal game, that would be that...15 min later and I'm playing the game... But no. It took another 40 min to get a steam account, register my serial, and "unlock the game files" during which there was a fair bit of network and hard drive activity. All this extra hastle really burned by goat. and If a guy had dial-up that would really cause the anger. He bought CD's so he wouldn't have to download the game through stream. So why is he waiting literally hours to play then? cuz valve is greedy that's why. Did making that legitimate customer wait countless hours to play the game he paid for prevent the game from being pirated? NO. It just pissed people off and makes them want to rebelÖ Some people I know just started working, and no longer have time to pirate, and at the same time now have money to buy games. So they go out and buy them. In part because they want to support the company for making a great game, and in part because itís more convenient. In this case if someone has a dial-up connection, getting the warez version of the game from a friend would be much more convenient then the real thing. Doesnít anyone find that a tad ridicules?... The idea of steam to deliver content strait to the customer wasnít a horrid idea. Iím all for cutting out the middleman. But getting back to Valve being greedy. Sure itís nice that the people developing the game see more of the money you spend on a game. But according to "The Final Hours of Half-Life 2" that was posted on GameSpot, valve makes 429 % MORE money on copies of the game sold through steam. WoW 429 %. Now do you the consumer see ANY of that savings? There is a 5 dollar difference in price. Although once you factor in the fact that you wonít be receiving the box, the one page manual, any CDís or DVD, and you are left to spend more time, effort, and more money, in the way of DVD-R or CD-R, to back up your investment. The answer is NO. So why didnít valve split that 429% profit they gained from cutting out the middleman fifty fifty? Iíll you draw your own conclusionsÖ. Not to mention the grips about, why should someone buying CDís even NEED to install steam in the first place? It should be optional.
