Default Half-life 2 low fps thread

Hi all,

Curious what others low fps in HL2 are. I generally get around 85-100fps when there isnt any physics involved (1024x768 high settings) THe waterboat area really chopped my fps down to about 30-35fps. I get 125fps in the stress test. Is the 30-35fps low acceptable? Ive tried adjusting my settings but even at low details i still get 30-35. I think this must be a cpu limitation.

thanks

jeff

my system is:

Athlon 64 3000+
Abit Kv8 Pro
BFG 6800 OC
Kingston 1 gig 512mb DDR 3200

The Source engine forum is there for a reason.

Sometimes my framerate dips into the 30-35fps range as well... its completely noticable because sometimes it runs above 100fps. I'm thinking its my cpu because it only seems to slow down when there's alot of action involved...

Mine dips too, 30-35FPS. I'm thinking its CPU/GPU share and Source related.

CS:S has the same prob too though.

You people are lucky. With my overclocked XP I get drops into the high 20s when a large draw distance is involved (Highway 17). This is the first game that gives me a reason to upgrade.

Hmmm.. HL2 seems to be liking my Athlon64 much.. since it never drops under 50 here @ 1280x960 4xAA 8xFA..

it is a awesome game none the less.

I'm running an 1800+ athlon XP. And half a gig of ram. So i get slow cpu, plus HDD stutter, but I can't say it has ruined the experience so far a bit.
