Default Reminder of my change of heart

It's really unfortunate Valve does not commit any resources to Linux.

*sigh* I will not be paying Valve for HL2 until they do so.

I find it ridiculous that a game of this popularity is narrowly developed for Windows-only.

No, I will not use Cedega either. That's not a "Linux version of HL2" but some hack. Oh well. Sucks to be Valve.

I'm not against Linux or anything, but what are the numbers on how many people run windows and how many people run Linux as their only OS. Would it really be worth the time to develop a game for another OS when there aren't nearly as many people using it? Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, I'm kinda new so I'm not looking to make any enemies.

Well 99% of users have Windows... so its kinda not suprising. It would be like making a Mac version. It would probably cost them more money to port it over then they would in earning it back in sales.

"Narrow" seems the wrong word to use there when they did cover 90+% of the market w/the Windows release.

It does seem kinda odd that they aren't supporting HL2 like they did HL1. From what I remember the Linux version of that was popular enough to warrent the port, plus a lot of servers were running Linux so that helped the community as a whole. Strange they wouldn't make it an option...but the next time you're on a server that crashes, just think that it could've been avoided had they made a Linux version

Too late, you've been marked for death already. The hitmen will be breaking down your door any second, my advice is to run as fast as you can and don't look back.

I think the numbers are greatly skewed. Epic and id software are reportedly VERY pleased with their linux ports. The revenue also is of interest, there is more interest for developers to release ports for Linux games than Mac games. There are more Linux gamers than there are Mac gamers...and when I say gamers, I mean people running either one of those OS's who run games on them that utilize more than a GeForce2.

Yes, he has violated at least 4 different by-laws of the Gentoo holy cult. It is now the collective duty of all of us to arrive at his house with tanks full of napalm. That us, unless he agrees to shave his head and genitalia hairs, and start installing FOSS pronto.

Just so you know: TransGaming is going to be supporting HL2 under Linux via WineX. They made a big press release about it a few days ago.

Check it out.

I dunno, wrt gaming, I am going to strictly put my money where my mouth is. Maybe if there are *just* enough folks like me Valve may someday take notice.

Better than being a Mac user though.

Reminds me of this article on macgamer.com, where they made fun of the nVidia rep who was at a Mac expo and got up, asking "So who here likes to play HalfLife?"
