I though nVidia is working with BSD devs on it. Did something change?

Cheers,

Looks like some progress been made in Perforce a few days ago. John Baldwin is working on PAT (which is required for an Nvidia FreeBSD/amd64 driver), and here's what a recent commit log says:
Quote:
Change 93413 2006/03/16 by jhb@jhb_slimer

- Update pmap_mapdev_attr() to change the cache mode in pdes if a
mapping request is for a KVA range that maps to an exact set of
complete 2MB pages. Otherwise, only use the direct-map for
PAT_WRITE_BACK mappings.
- Fix same bugs in amd64 pmap_change_attr() as last submit did for
i386 and add support for changing the cache mode in PDE's for 2MB
pages that are completely spanned by the KVA range.

If this works this might be enough for a beta amd64 nvidia driver.

Is that due to some technical difficulty (as with proper FreeBSD 5 support with threads taking so long), or is there just not enough demand at present to justify it? My opteron workstation is currently in 32bit mode and thats fine but 64bit would be interesting.

......ME TOO.

I've been a Desktop FreeBSD user for a couple of years now, and have allways enjoyed the great support from NVidia, but alas, I just bought a new AMD64 system and it looks like I'm gonna be stuck in 32-bit land.

I e-mailed John Baldwin (the PAT guy) last month about this:

Well, I have the PAT stuff ported over to amd64 now and running and sent
a patch to my nvidia contact earlier this week for testing. I am hopeful
that there will be an nvidia driver for amd64 by the time 7.0 is
released.
Be patient, there's hope!

Sounds great... I think.
Is there an estimated release date for FreeBSD 7.0 ??

Noop, it's too far into the future.
