I could be seriously wrong or maybe this is just some odd idea... but does't MAC OS10 or whatever use freebsd as its base only modified by apple? Can't someone reverse engineer what they have? Mac OSX leopard or somthing. Was just an idea. I've been checking this thread for about a year and a half. Still depressing as ever.

No. Although much of the main OS infrastructure of MacOS X is from FreeBSD, things like the VM system and signal handling are from Mach, and the driver system is either Mach or homegrown (probably the latter).

I use FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-amd64 and I give my vote for drivers for this OS as I was really disappointed when I saw 2-6 fps in my screensaver.

Please note that at this point, some features required for proper support of the FreeBSD/amd64 platform are still missing; please see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...&postcount=172 for more information.

Very informative, thank you for that

Please keep us up to date like this. It helps to know that people are working on it and there's progress being made. Atleast now I know what to look for in the FreeBSD release notes

As the release of an amd64 driver is still based on customer requests, here's my vote...

Another vote for amd64 driver support

Just ordered hardware to make a FreeBSD workstation, and would like to be able to use FreeBSD/amd64 on it as soon as possible.

If I read that correctly some of the needed changes are implemented (Revision 1.570) in -CURRENT. Might take some time to trickle down to -STABLE. AFAIK src is frozen right now pending the upcoming 6.2-RELEASE.
