Thanks for your work guys!

Does somebody know the state for the remaining items 2 and 5?
What about the item 4? The wiki page doesn't seem to be up to date since the magesh's post.

Thanks again, and let's cross our fingers! :P

I think Magesh is a PC-BSD Dev or part of its Dev community. Which would explain why he/she knows about this as he may be working on some of this as part of that project. Maybe Zander can drag Magesh back over here to post an update on the forums again, as it seems he/she may have been a one post wonder !!!!

Anyway I stated last time I posted that I would update the wiki. But unfortunatly I haven't been able to do so as it seems that the FreeBSD wiki pages are locked down. Only the creator/owner of the wiki page can grant me author access and after a few emails I have not heard back from them. I guess I could create another wiki page but I would have prefered to edit the existing one.

What exactly is the Wiki supposed to be updated with?

I might have missed something.

I haven't been able to track progress very closely; the last update I saw was that Magesh wasn't actively working on the remaining feature requests. There was interest from two other developers to help out, but I'm not sure if any progress has been made in the last few weeks.

I hope there is still a progres in this case.

Otherwise, I have to read a lot to jump into the world of freeBSD kernel development... and this will take some time, cause I have no idea where to start yet...

hope to have amd-64 driver soon.

Why haven't nVidia people started submitting patches to FreeBSD? At the very least, nVidia could offer a patchset to add support it wants for public testing, and then the FreeBSD Kernel Team could merge them in once they're at production quality. Anything to hasten this project (at least a little) would help. I'm sure I'm not the only business owner here who needs 64-bit and 3D support on the same machine for product production (and, eventually, to do business with said product).

Maybe because nvidia is in the business of producing video card and drivers, not developing operating systems?

While I do agree that Lady's demand was irrelevant, nVidia has partially blamed - read: If nVidia is only in the business of writing drivers, they should not demand changes to the OS as a pre-requisite to porting the drivers to FBSD/64.
If nVidia is in the business of designing the BSD's kernel, it would have been nice if they have also taken part of the actual work (they require).

Another solution, of-course, would have been to do an AMD and let the Xorg community do the hard work for them, but that's another (irrelevant-to-this-thread) subject.

I don't believe the demanded anything, simply alerted users and developers to the infrastructure requirements for the FreeBSD drivers.

You mean:
simply alerted users and developers to their infrastructure requirements in-order to port their FreeBSD drivers to x86_64.

AFAIK, neither Intel not ATI/AMD requested these changes.

Given the context of this thread, and this forum, I think it's pretty obvious we are all talking about their drivers.

...?
Hadn't demanded anything? Simply alerted users and developers?
How can you claim that we are essentially saying the same thing?
