For those of you monitoring this thread in the hopes of receiving status updates: Alan Cox very recently committed a set of supporting changes to HEAD (see http://svn.freebsd.org/viewvc/base?v...evision=195649). John plans on updating his branch over the next few days. I'll probably have to resolve the pending driver updates against a current snapshot at that point, retest and debug any problems (as time permits). So while it will likely still be a while before there is a FreeBSD snapshot/release and BETA driver for you to test, progress is still being made.

+1 vote for NVIDIA on FreeBSD amd64

Are there any features not currently in 8-CURRENT that still need to be added?

When the FreeBSD AMD64 driver is finally made available, are there any plans to support CUDA on FreeBSD? Right now one's options are limited exclusively to Windows and Linux. Having this available would make FreeBSD a much more viable platform for SciVis and HPC.

The Linux CUDA runtime might work with the Linuxulator, but the SDK has dependencies that make it unlikely to work with arbitrary linux_base packages. I don't think either has been tested on FreeBSD. There are currently no plans to support FreeBSD natively.

There seems to have been no activity on this thread for a while. Is the FreeBSD-amd64 driver still being worked on? If yes, can you please tell us approximately when it is likely to become publicly available? If not, what happened?

There's been some progress, changes have been trickling into the HEAD and FreeBSD 8 branches over the last few weeks and there's been some test/debug work. What's currently believed to be the last missing piece for i386 is expected to go into FreeBSD 8 before the end of this week, and John says he has begun merging changes to FreeBSD 7. Once everything is in place in both FreeBSD 7 and 8, __FreeBSD_version__ is going to be bumped, some time after which additional testing/verification will take place against TOT of both branches (both i386 and amd64).

I can't say how long it will take for BETA FreeBSD i386/amd64 NVIDIA graphics drivers to become available once the kernel is ready, but as it stands, we're definitely much closer than ever before.

Exciting to hear.

(Fwiw, I'm yet another FreeBSD user awaiting amd64 support.)

Yay! Then there is nothing more standing in the way of my linux to freebsd migration :-) Nouveau is still too bugged and has no powersave support, so its no use for me on my laptop.

Except maybe the actual release of the driver?

Hi. I'm also looking forwared to amd64 drivers for FreeBSD. I'm currently forced to use Linux because I need a 64 bit OS with high-end graphics capabilities.
