FreeBSD-amd64 driver ?

I recently verified that RELENG_7 and RELENG_8 kernels work as advertised with respect to the new features. As to status: at this point, native FreeBSD/i386 and FreeBSD/amd64 NVIDIA graphics drivers work on both platforms, as do OpenGL applications native to them; FreeBSD/i386 OpenGL applications also run on FreeBSD/amd64. Further, with a recent set of Linuxulator mmap() fixes, Linux/x86 OpenGL applications work on both FreeBSD/i386 and FreeBSD/amd64.

It shouldn't be long now, but I can't give you a date for a public BETA driver release. We do not have any plans to support Hybrid SLI on Linux, Solaris or FreeBSD at this time.

is there going to be a 32bit compat layer like Linux has?
Eg so we can play World of Warcraft in wine on amd64 (Just like Linux)

World of warcraft works perfect on 32bit FreeBSD 8 RC3 right now.

@sfourman: I have no idea if wine works on FreeBSD/amd64, but the Linux/x86 OpenGL libraries should work fine - see my last post to this thread.

As wine can run on FreeBSD/amd64 in 32-bit chroot or jail, I think the answer is theorically yes.

Awesome! This just made my day. The lack of a sensible video driver for my computer was the only major factor preventing me from fully enjoy FreeBSD

Yes chroot does work with wine on amd64 I have done it with 32bit firefox for windows and a few other non OpenGL apps. I used this guide

My question to Nvidia is: When the first beta driver is released for amd64 is there also going to be a matching beta version for i386? reason being... if there is then just like linux we could test 32bit OpenGL apps on amd64. (eg install the matching 32bit driver in chroot)

I would be happy to take point on testing this, as I have the experience and hardware.

Thanks for your interest Zander, but you know, it's been a long trip so that's why I'm asking. I read your previous post, but I was asking myself what does not long mean ?. Are we talking next month ? Xmas ? Or may be mid 2010 ?
