Thank you zander for all of your hard work. I switched to amd64 to have a more stable ZFS and had been lementing the lack of a nvidia driver. You work is very much appreciated. Keep it up!

Cheers,

Kudos to Nvidia for supporting FreeBSD. Thank you all!

Now I am able to get rid of the linux distribution I was forced to use on my desktop!!!!

Is the Quadro NVS 135M supported? I just installed FreeBSD/amd64 8.0 on my Dell D630 and am trying to get X11 working. I installed the beta drivers, but I'm not having any luck.

/var/log/messages says:
vgapci0: <VGA-compatible display> port 0xdf00-0xdf7f mem 0xf5000000-0xf5ffffff,0xf2000000-0xf3ffffff irq 16 at device 0.0 on pci1

/var/log/Xorg.0.log says:

Additionally, stderr says:
NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (No such file or directory).

Thoughts? I'd really like to run FreeBSD/amd64 on this laptop.

Thanks!!

What's the output of kldstat? I bet you don't have nvidia.ko loaded.

I've also added:

hw.pci.allow_unsupported_io_range="1"

to /boot/loader.conf and rebooted.

Should I just try x86 on this thing instead?

@wonko42: the failure occurrs outside the driver, in the kernel itself. Moving to FreeBSD/i386 may resolve it, but there also is a chance that the problem would persist (e.g. if it was caused by a VBIOS or architecture-independent bug). Your best bet probably is to report it to the appropriate FreeBSD maintainers to get it investigated and fixed (or worked around).

You'll have to pardon my ignorance, but do you know who the appropriate maintainers would be? I've been out of the FreeBSD game for a long time now, sadly.

From what I've seen of 8.0 though, I think I want to come back.

Thanks!!!!

One possibility is to post to a mailing list such as freebsd-hackers, or asking for help on one of the official FreeBSD forums. I'm not sure what the officially sanctioned bug reporting path is, unfortunately.

I had problems with my Latitude D630, too. System freezes and reboots ...

After removing /etc/X11/xorg.conf and generating a new one with nvidia-xconfig, all works fine.

Hope this helps.

Sadly it doesn't.

Thanks for the advice, however!
