Is there anything any of us can do? I've worked with kernel source on various occaisions and would like to consider myself a junior kernel hacker. I would love to help out.

Also, thanks for the update! It is good to know our pleas are not falling on deaf ears.

I guess I'll put up my post now, just to reassure that there hasn't been a sudden dropoff in demand for the freebsd-amd4 driver. There hasn't!

We collectively beg you for the driver, NVIDIA. Pleeease.

How does the thing go? Anything new we can know? It's a while since the last news. You have updated the site with nforce 32/64bit and 32bit video Windows Vista drivers (an OS that is still not in the market, I think) and there's no FreeBSD x64 support yet

thanks

VERY interested in a FreeBSD AMD64 driver.. We just bought 160 Dual Opterons and all have 6800Gts in them, we want to move over to 64bit but this is holding us back, and seriously making us consider ATI as an alternative (we are buying 200 more workstations very soon)...

Rumor has it that the kernel "hooks" needed for an amd64 freebsd driver will be available in the 6.0 release which should be out any day now. We can expect a driver shortly thereafter I hope.

I'm also looking for an FreeBSD/amd64 driver. I still have my good old Geforce2 GTS/Pro and a driver would be very nice.

Definitely not the case.

freebsd builds its kernel with its own cc not gcc.

could be wrong. pretty sure.

It's been a while since I last built a FreeBSD kernel (a year?), but AFAIK FreeBSD is built around the gcc tool-chain.
The CC that you see is just another name for gcc. (same as g++).
Just run cc --version to verify it. (I have no access to my BSD machine(s) from here.)

Cheers,

There's not much to explain. The VM extensions that NVidia wants are not in the 6-release code.

My understanding is that NVidia refuses to release drivers without the extensions to control page placement so that's that.

I'm just still sitting around waiting. I'd love to run FreeBSD AMD64, but I'll just run Linux AMD64 since there aren't Nvidia drivers still.

Just putting in a bump.
