Guys, take it easy, I'm sure Nvidia's QA is tackling this problem. Not all problems are easily resolved. ;-)
With that in mind, make sure you have MTRR configured in your kernel... |

BTW it's the same problem with the N420D-chipset based board hosting a GeForce 2 integrated GPU.
I have boot up times for X-Servers of about 1 minute. Screen gets black, nothing happens, looks like hangup, after half a minute wild flashing of the screen, a little later "CHR-salad" on the screen (definitely a sure sign of something going wrong). Just after that the NVidia-Logo. And X starting. Hajo |

I'm not particularly concerned with this bug not being resolved for quite a long period of time, but I'd like some sort of recognition from nVidia that the bug exists and that they're at least examining if it's possible to fix the problem.
Of course, open sourcing the drivers would probably solve the issue much faster, but I'm sure their lawyers wouldn't like that =(

It has a 30-second delay for me with the 3213 drivers, and I'm using a GeForce 4 MX 440. I'm going to go try to downgrade the drivers right now, so I'll let you know if anything works.

hmm.... I tried the 1541 drivers and it gives me an error at the end of XFree86.0.log:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device (EE) No devices detected. Fatal server error: no screens found Any idea how to fix this? I've included the whole log in case |

Those drivers were out before the GeForce 4 was...
Do you have your hostname set correctly? Can you ping your hostname?

Like... if you named your computer linolium.floors.com or something, try pinging it. Mine is sunder.l33tnet.com, for example. If you don't have a valid address on the internet, you may need to add a line in your /etc/host files that points your hostname to the localhost address like this:
127.0.0.1 linolium Here's a suggestion from another forum: I've found that commenting a few "FontPath" lines in the XF86Config file made X load quicker. Here's what I have now: FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/" # FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/monotype/TrueType/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/freefont/" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local/" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/" # FontPath "unix/:7100" # FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"

I can confirm these problems.
But using FreeBSD and the new nvidia drivers. On my system 8PII 350 TNT2) it takes 3-5 Minutes, the original FreeBSD drivers take just 2-3 seconds. |

Hi,
I just wanna join the row of people having this annoying delay at startup. To sum it all up, the only "solution" seems to be a downgrade of the driver at the moment. So I downgraded to version 2802 and now decreased the delay from ca. 30 to 14 sec, which is quite a progress... I am using SuSE 7.3, kernel 2-4-10 GB and a Pixelview GeForce MX 440. Hopefully NVIDIA will somehow fix this strange issue, as basically the drivers work great and as many users seem to be affected by it. mat |

Well, for FreeBSD downgrading is not an option, because there are no previous versions... so, waiting for an official statement
