Question X starts, but always crash!!!!

I'm sorry for the long message :-? and sorry for my poor english!!

SO Fedora Core 3 (kernel 2.6.9)
Pentium III 866 Mhz,
RAM 256 Mb
GeForce FX 5500
Mother Board QDI Advance 10F ( AGP 4x)

I've install the nvidia's drive for FC3.
X starts , but before few seconds ma crashed. (Working in a xterm). The CPU it's working at 99%.... and then X crashed.

This is the output of "top" from another PC in the LAN trough ssh:

This is the "xdpyinfo" output . Here there are something bad because the "Installation Guide" of NVIDIA drive says that the correct extensions "GLX" and "NV-GLX" should be present: ("GLX" is present, but "NV-GLX" no)

Thanks!!
Well, here is my Xorg.0.log where you can see that X cant' load glx.
Also the top's output (from another PC in the LAN) when X crashed. (why the swap is not used?)
And finally my xorg.conf
I get the driver and module kernel from:
http://apt.physik.fu-berlin.de/fedor...t-stable/RPMS/

Maybe any conflict mother board vs GeForce?
bye

Maybe because I've uninstalled xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL like says : www.fedorafaq.org/custom_nvidia.html ?

Hi,

and when you correct the link so libGL.so points to libGL.so.1.0.6629?

(oh, and since you are using freetype, you do not need this:
FontPath "unix/:7100" nor the 'xfs (x font server' redhad seems to love so much).

Remove this:
Section "DRI"
Group 0
Mode 0666
EndSection

and please post your chipset (not mobo! I do not want to search for your mobo, I am lazy), best to do: post lspci output.

Hi,

well that solves your APG2x problem, this is from the README (you should have read it, but you didn't right?):

On Athlon motherboards with the VIA KX133 or 694X chip set, such as the
ASUS K7V motherboard, NVIDIA drivers default to AGP 2x mode to work around
insufficient drive strength on one of the signals. You can force AGP 4x
by setting NVreg_EnableVia4x to 1. Note that this may cause the system
to become unstable.

For your glx-probs, shutdown X, correct the link, let ldconfig run, check the link, start X.

Question Re: X starts, but always crash!!!!

I have a doubt. Why when i run the X server with nvidia drivers the swap memory is not used , : Swap: 265032k total, 0k used

when normally, (like now, that X runs with "nv" standard drivers), is it used:
Swap: 265032k total, 108312k used

Well... I'm very tired with my GeForce

I have been another test:
1. Uninstall the driver v. 6629
2. Install the driver v. 6111
3. GeForce with driver nvida dont' work (X crashed)
4. I take off GeForce and Install my old Riva TNT2
3. Well, now all works fine...
glxgears:
959 frames in 5.0 seconds = 191.800 FPS
1165 frames in 5.0 seconds = 233.000 FPS
1162 frames in 5.0 seconds = 232.400 FPS
1162 frames in 5.0 seconds = 232.400 FPS
1164 frames in 5.0 seconds = 232.800 FPS
1138 frames in 5.0 seconds = 227.600 FPS

and run UnrealTournement 2003

so, the driver is it installed correctly

now the swap is used normally:
Cpu(s): 5.9% us, 2.3% sy, 0.0% ni, 91.1% id, 0.0% wa, 0.7% hi,
0.0% si
Mem: 256100k total, 254868k used, 1232k free, 3296k buffers
Swap: 265032k total, 7068k used, 257964k free, 78868k cached

I think there are three possibilities:

a. the GeForce it's damaged.. (I did buy it only two weeks ago)
b. there are some problem with the mother board.
c. there are some problem with the bios, (version jannuary 2001)

maybe i must upload the bios's version?

thanks
daniel ( very tired)
