It's a nice engine for sure, but I would still take a Viper or even a Corvette over an M5 anyday. The M5 looks like a yuppie family car. Is it even in production? Or is it still concept?

ya see why we DON'T need a car forum? it'd just end up being a tuner vs muscle car forum, with arguing beyond belief :\

They are both 10 cylinder engines.
The BMW is 5 liters, the Dodge is 8 liters.
The BMW can rev higher, the Dodge has 50% more torque through the entire RPM range, but won't rev as high.

dsessom,

Don't worry my friend, you're not the lone American car supporter here. Viva la General!

Actually, Pushrod V8's of the same displacement as OHC V8's tend to have better fuel economy.

And the mechanical simplicity of the pushrod layout and valvetrain makes them cheaper to work on, easier to fix and less costly to maintain throughout their lifetime.

The Hemi Chrysler is using now is really just a "named" V8 that they've been using for literally decades. It's a very stout platform, not to mention that they have done away with the ridiculous AT that kept many a transmission shop's owners kids in college. Initial quality has been very high on the 300/C and Magnums.

As a for instance, the V10 in the viper is basically a modified version of the V10 they used in their Ram pick-ups. Very reliable indeed. Most reliability problems with the Vipers have been brakes and throw-out bearings.

BTW, I still maintain that we don't need an automobile forum

Same goes for pushrod I-4 engines. My dearly departed '92 Cavalier required only minor, inexpensive maintenance in its lifetime. Hell, the way that car was running when it was totaled, I'd probably still be driving it today (with nearly 200,000 miles on the odo).

Yup.

There's a very good reason why the SBC (Small Block Chevy) and 302 Ford's are still the prefered motors for Hot Rodders, budget racers and professional sports car teams.

Pushrods aren't the low-tech hilly-billy solutions people make them out to be. You don't need to rev to 9,000 RPM's when you make all of your torque by 7000. It saves gas and it's less stress on the motor components. Win/Win.

Speaking of I-4s, 'cede, what's your opinion on the GM Ecotec motor?
