http://www6.tomshardware.com/mainboa...force2-17.html

If you scroll down to Sound System you'll see "External Connectors". The Leadtek only has the in, out, mic while the Asus has in, out, mic, surround, center, spdif-out! So it sounds like only the Asus board can provide 5.1 surround WITHOUT using a Dolby Decoder. I don't have a Dolby Decoder and have no reason to buy one, I just assumed that the Leadtek would support 5.1 surround without the Decoder. So what's the deal?

Here are some pics of the two boards:

Notice the Reversed PCI slot at the bottom of the Leadteak board? Im thinking it comes with a extra pci card that gives you the rest of the surround connections.. i could be wrong though.

You are talking about this WinFast K7NCR18D-Pro right? In the specs if does mention.. Audio (APU)
Built-in NVIDIA SoundStorm Audio with Dolby Digital 5.1 Encoding , SPDIF Digital output and 6-channel speakers support

Yes, it is the Pro version.

From the looks of it, it is not coming with an extra pci card to fill up the reversed slot. You can see everything it comes with here:

http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?style=album

I did notice that it says 6-channel support but I'm just a little confused as to why it only has in, out, and a mic. Shouldn't it have center, front, and rear outputs?

It should have 2 out's. One main and one for surround. Your speakers should split up the rest...

But where is that second Out for the surround. It MUST come with that extra pci card or ACR card since it does mention SPDIF Digital Out.

Edit, i see from the pick it does come with a pci bracket with the SPDIF connecter on it.... i dont get it....

Is it possible it only supports surround when using the SPDIF-Digital out?

Right, it does have an SPDIF Digital Out card for the 5.1 Dolby Digital. I'm thinking that this is the only way to get surround; those people without a Dolby Decoder can't use their surround setup.

Yep, i think your right... Well that kinds sucks dont it??

Why would they do it that way. I mean what about the people with the Logitech Z-560's. They get a nForce2 and have no where to plug in the rear speakers.

Exactly! That's why I'm confused about this. Cause it's soo stupid that it's questionable.

I ended up sending Leadtek some of my questions concerning this motherboard and it's audio features. Hopefully I'll hear back from them! I'll be sure to post whatever they send me.

Bonus for you! Sell that card and recoup some of that mobo's cost!

damn now i just hope nvidia is going to make a dual CPU nforce board

Default Great News!

Great news!

I just called up Leadtek and talked to a guy in tech support. He said that I'll be able to hook up my 5.1 speakers to the 3 connectors and get 6 channel output. He said that the audio connectors are stereo out, line in, and mic, BUT the software allows you to change how the audio connectors funtion. The only problem is that if I'm running 6 channel output I can't use the line in or mic because the software will change these connectors to stereo output (center, rear, front) It really isn't a problem because I don't won't use those connectors ever.

Ahh, this is good news! I was not willing to pay an extra $100 just for a receiver with Dobly Digital decoding.

okay thats makes sense but.. what about people that want the two line-out's for a 4.1 setup, and want a Mic for online chat during gaming AND have a TV Tuner card which needs a Line-In?

I guess im going to get a Audigy2 to go along with my nForce2...

Yeah, that is a problem for some.

My suggestion to you FastM would be to buy the ASUS A7N8X Nforce2 board; forget the leadtek board PLUS an audigy. This board has 6 audio connectors so you won't have to sacrifice any ports just to get multiple audio channels. I've also been reading a lot about the nVidia APU and it seems to be superior in 3D audio tests, probably because it doesn't demand much from the CPU.

Here's a pic showing you all of the connectors on the Asus A7N8X:

http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage....131-436-01.JPG

The Asus board performs at the same level as the Leadtek so don't worry about performance.
