Hello!

I have a problem with the same hardware but on SUSE 10.1 x86_64

I successfully installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-8762-pkg2 driver and modified xorg.сonf with x-config
After reboot I have these problems:
- the display is switched on while system booting,
- then the display is switches off,
- after that the KDE login window opens (but I can not see it)
- I type the password and login
- Then display is switches on, so I can see the Desktop, but it is empty (fully not configured) desktop.
- In the user's home directory I found new folder Desktop1 (with my new desktop icons). My old desktop folder (Desktop) here but it is not used.

How I can to fix switching off of the display while KDE login window is opens and restore my old desktop?

andrew_tm, the problem that you're describing doesn't sound like an nvidia driver issue. Are you using the same motherboard Jimmzone? If not, it sounds unlikely that your problem is identical to the original issue here.

Regardless, I'll need to see an nvidia-bug-report.log which was generated while the problem was present.

Sorry, my configuration files are in the attachment.

Here the details of my hardware configuration
cpu: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
mb: Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-SLI
video: Dual Nvidia 6600 PCI-E (GV-3D1-XL)

and software:
Suse Linux 10.1 x86_64
Linux kernel 2.6.16.13 (the Linux base)

IMHO this is not a bug, but only incorrect configuration of the driver.
If it is true, please, help me to configure it correctly.

The only odd things that I see in your bug report is that the driver is not detecting any display devices attached to the first videocard:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No connected display devices detected; assuming 1 CRT
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0

How many display devices are you using, and to which videocards are they attached?

And also, you've got alot of temperature warnings coming from one of the videocards:

I have only one videocard, but with two chips. If it possible I want to use SLI mode of my videocard because a have only one display...

If it can help you to help me: temperature warnings are coming from the second chip (in the windows temperature of the fisrst chip is 67-68C, but the second is 97-101C.

If you wish to use SLI, then you need to configure X to do so. I'd suggest reading the driver README.

You should address the temperature problem, as it will degrade the lifespan of the hardware, and also potentially result in instability.
