to the forum. I just bought a 6600gt card after having to deal with ATI's substandard drivers and empty promises for nine months (I owned a 9800Pro). After installing the nvidia drivers on my Suse 9.2 PC, I was amazed on how well Doom3 and Unreal tournament were working. KOTOR worked with minor problems with Cedega, as did Far Cry... On the other side of the fence I always used to hear how things are improving and one day we would have proper drivers but, frankly, nvidia's driver is years ahead.
So, congratulations nvidia, as a linux user I thank you for your efforts. |

Well, the ATI drivers thing is getting truly ridiculous. At this point, the quality of the drivers is not really the point, the main problem is that ATI have said clearly that they regard the Linux market as an insignificant, 2% niche, which is fine by me really, I think their calculations are correct. When there is an alternative, however, that produces fully functional drivers and treats customers with respect (read mtippet's entries in rage3d forums and compare it with nvidia's constant support in these forums), I think I will stop caring about ATI's policies on Linux drivers and just spend my money on a company that supports my OS.
