So let's see here, you're saying:

It isn't the game that killed your system, it's the game's extreme graphic settings that did.

Your logic reminds of a dog chasing it's tail.
My point was that I can force pretty much any game to "bring my video card to its knees" by enabling higher and higher graphics options. And believe it or not, MANY people buy top of the line hardware and run at 1024x768 with no AA\AF. That way they never have to worry about slow downs until a game actually comes around that DOES bring their system to its knees (ie, forcing them to play at crap resolutions and to lower details).

And you didnt even quote me correctly. If you're going to make a smart ass comment, at least keep what i said in context

Anyway, back on topic. Has anyone seen this??

Its a minotaur! Ive never seen that shot before today.

I found it on this page:

It looks good... not amazing, but that is just a really cool enemy. I cant wait to cut one of those down with a longsword

HL2 ran just fine at settings D3 wouldn't [it's even worse for ATI owners]. Max settings is generally considered 16x12 4xAA 8/16xAF [6x/8xAA being brand specific] as seen by most benchers [this is a duh!, hence why I didn't elaborate before, it's generally assumed people know this]. There is a difference. Stop trying to play it off as nothing. FC and even moreso D3 are the utilmate games this generation in pushing vid cards to their max.

Yet another reason why I believe the goverment should control breeding. Though I fail to see what this has to do with D3, nobody with a GT + Brain played it at 1024x768 noAA/AF considering it's capped.

I just feel like my $411 investment is being wasted if every gaming moment isn't straining it to the maximum potential (or as close as I can get it) at all times. He's still got a GF4 Ti4200 and games at 800x600 for everything. He says I should just lower the res to that and turn off all AA/AF to get the best performance.

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't spend my $411 to play at 800x600 w/out AA or AF.
same here

Well I guess thats just your deffinition of what "brings your system to its knees". I was just disagreeing with what you said about D3 bringing todays graphics to its knees. I doubt many people will agree with you though. I have friends that think D3 runs well at 30fps on an 1800+ and a 9200 Pro (800x600, low quality). They sure wouldnt say that a game that ran at 60fps with dips to 30fps at 1600x1200 brought my system to its knees. Niether would I.

But I guess you would. And if that works for you, more power to ya

I ran Doom3 at 1600x1200 with ultra high settings, 8xAA 4xFF, and I had a constant 80fps on my old box, which is a geforce4, petnium2 proc @ 800mhz and a 200mhz fsb, 256mb DDR133 RAM. Pretty sweet man.

Don't even get me started on HL2

Yeah, well on my Celeron 400 with 128MB RAM (8MB shared video) I ran at 3200x2400, 16xAA and 16xAF with a constant 60FPS.

Bringing the system to its knees is considering having to play on Low and noAA and noAF and something like 800x600. Since when is 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF considered bringing system to its knees? You expect any new game to be playable at those settings?? Why would you use AA at 1600x1200 in the first place.

As far as I know, Doom3 and FarCry and HL2 don't tax my system. I run either 1024x768 or 1152x864 with 4xAA 8xAF, and both run 60fps. Now taxing the system is Xpand Rally, which goes under 30fps on some tracks, and I have to play at 1024x768 noAA 4xAF in order to get decent playability.

When a game makes me play on Low to Medium with like 800x600, then it's bringing the computer to its knees. According to you (Sorrow), every game in the history so far has brought any system to its knees b/c you can't play at 2048x1536 16xAA 16xAF with 100fps with the respective high end system from the time.

Then your guys' standards are way too high. I can game fine at 1024x768 noAA if it's needed for good performance. It's like up until X800 and 6800 come out, everybody rejoiced that they could play at 1024x768 with all details. Now, unless it's 1600x1200 4xAA 8xAF, it somehow sucks. Right.

Something is definetly wrong with some of you people.
