Default (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load GLX

I'm having trouble getting GLX to load. X11 will start up, but the GLX module will not load, not allowing any GL utilities to work. I have attached my XF86Config, XF86Config-4, and XFree86.0.log files to provide as much information as I can.

I'm running Debian unstable with the debian version of the 2.6.9 kernel, with lirc patches installed, as well as the ivtv drivers.

Running glxgears gets:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

If you can spot anything I'm overlooking to get GLX working, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi,

make sure /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extension/libglx.so.x.y.z exists.
Then make two symlinks libglx.so---> libglx.so.x.y.z and libglx.a ---> libglx.so.x.y.z

Make sure too that you have /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1 a symlink to /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.x.y.z

x.y.z is the version of your driver (1.0.6629 with the latest)

good luck,

Guillaume Leconte.

Thanks. It looks like I accidentally overwrote the libglx.so.1.etc file when I was trying to make a link for libglx.a earlier, and I hadn't realized it. Uninstalling and reinstalling the debian nvidia-glx package and running the nvidia installer again fixed the problem. I feel a bit like a goof now.

Thanks for the help again, I really appreciate it.
