Question Power Supply smell?

ok I got a new power supply on sunday, a Ultra Xconnect Power supply 500W and its making a smell well that smells like a hair dryer, its not running hot but I think that it might be defective.

Most power supplies take a few weeks to burn in...literally. My smelled a bit for almost a couple months I think. Its normal as long as its not too strong.

Yep... It will be fine. It's normal burn in.

Haha .. you should have smelled my monitor when I burnt it in ... whew!! Gotta love the smell of new computer parts!

ok cool just checking, I picked up a frys return just because it was the last one and checked it just to see if all the parts were there.

wtf now i have to wait for pc parts to burn in? when the hell did that start? the first pc i built was a pentium 233

Over at silentpcreview forums there was a very similar thread, but I can't find it. A rep from the manufacturers(who was also a registered forum user) said something along the lines of: every once in a while we come across a batch of PSU's that will do this. He also suggested RMA'ing if the smell doesn't seem to go away over time.

Yeah, if the smell dosent go away id get a new one,

However i warn against Ultra X-Connects, awful psu.

How do u figure it's a bad psu?
My X-Connect rocks brother. No problems here.
Beats the dog sh!t out of my Antec Trueblue 480.
I'm seeing the most stable voltage I've ever had on a rig.
