I found the opposite to be true. Whit default fx 5900xt timings with the memory at 763 vs the slackest ones with the memory at 835, i found that i had 150 more 3dmark03s with the tighter timings. This was mirrored in some other benchmarks I had. with 5900nu timings I may have been able to find the best compromise and get some more performance, but I didn't try that. It's been a while since I've benched with the different settings (same bios, just modded) so I can't give you the exact scores anymore, but using too loose of timings is not useful.

You are right also. Some apps just don't care abt latencies and some don't care abt higher clocks.

Though I agree with you, if find that latency vs clocks is an unsolvable battle
