Although the 3500+ made a difference with the scores in other games i have,
Doom3: 54.6====>57.7 fps(3 sec)
Painkiller: 90====>110 fps(20 sec)
VST: 90====>105 fps(15 sec)
HL2: 97====>103 fps(6 sec)
CoD: 134====>155 fps(21sec)
Quake3: 276====>313 fps(37 sec)
UT2K3: 203====>233 fps(30 sec)
but not Far Cry and Riddick
My only explaination is GPU limitation instead of CPU limitation or the area in which the demos where run were more GPU than CPU limited

Odd, I'm only getting 53.7 there with the same settings and near exact same rig although I am using the 71.20B and haven't played the game in donkeys now so god knows what way I have it set up. Ran at 1280x1024 4xAA/4xAF at Max. details, is there something someone isn't telling me apart from switching driver set?

There's only 2 to 3 FPS difference between all the latest Forcware drivers in this particular demo so i don't think that is your problem and judging by your scores in your sig it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with your rig, you're more than likely getting 'throttling' which i experienced as well when i o/clock my GFX card and tried to run this demo but was easily fixed by disabling Fast Writes in the Bios. I notice you have the same mobo and i know some-one else who also has the K8N Neo2 and had the same problem with Fast Writes and the demo. Try running the demo with your CPU and GPU set at Default clock speeds.

ps, i notice Tr1ck has Fast Writes disabled as well

Try the 67.66, the 70s were horrible for me.

Strange that, I've had fastwrites disabled about a week now.
Can't reboot atm -- workin
Yup, everything else flies along with no issues

Guess I'll give the 67.66's a shot at some stage, shame the 71.20B didn't work out for you, keeper for me, for now.

To the thread starter:

These were done precisely as you requested with the nVidia 71.25 driver. Patch 1.3 is installed. My video card is running at 440|1.15.

Thanks for that result Malficar, can you tell me what image setting you used when running the benchmark, as in: High Quality, Quality, Performance, High Performance in the Control Panel, i'm only asking because it does have quite an impact on the benchmark.
thx

ps, my results @ 450/1150:

Average Score = 70.84 fps (image setting = Quality)

Average Score = 78.01 fps (image setting = High Performance)
Driver: 71.40

I used the High Performance setting in the driver. Would you like the Quality?

EDIT:

Here is Quality driver image settings, and everything else as before:

That's great , thanks. As you can see there is a 6 to 7 fps difference between Quality and High Performance settings.

ps, so judging by your score the 64 4000+ verses the 64 3500+ is around a 5 fps increase,

4000+ = 75.75 fps (gfx@440/1150)
3500+ = 70.84 fps (gfx@440/1150)

interesting

It's possible. Other extended system settings could come into play as well, such as background services etc. I have 14 processes up or less, including my firewall. I keep my rig lean, defragged and tight as possible. No loads of temp folders/files, etc etc. I have had my agp aperture set to 512 as well for a time. I have no wallpaper up on my desktop and have my interface to classic adjusted for performance. I wish I could remember where the article was that I read that indicated a host of good things to defeat for games in winxp. For example windows loves to check for newly installed hardware at an alarming rate that is not needed. My BFG core has a pure copper evga heatsink on it with article silver 5. Keeps the temps tame at load. The 4000 at 2-2-2 1T is quite nice, and I am not sure I would attribute the entire difference to that alone.

Yes i agree, it's not a true 'apples to apples' comparison like my comparison between my previous 3200+(sktA) and my current 3500+(skt939) where all other hardware/settings were kept exactly the same and only the CPU and Motherboard were changed.

Macatak,

I relaxed my ram to 2.5-3-3-10 and scaled up to a flat 2.60 on my processor with 4xHT 11xMulti 237 FSB 1T at 1:1 and the result with "quality" driver image settings was 75.17. These were the only changed variables.

Does that mean CPU doesn't impact Far Cry? It suggests in this Bench that moving from 3200-3500, or from a 4000-FX 55 may very well not. I would suggest, if possible, when someone makes an action/fps bench for Far Cry they have your character get set to "God" and leave the aggro active. That way you could still walk through the bench and have the added benefit of testing the effect of many AI creatures following you about and creating havoc with their weapons/activity. Aka, much more reflective of real gameplay. X bit labs revealed the flaw of this sort of bench with Doom 3 measurements.

Later, I will run this bench with my processor at variable speeds and the bench at a res value of 800x600 and 1024x768. I do not play those settings and it would still be interesting to test. I have seen Far Cry tests before and it is much better to have a medium speed CPU and high medium graphics card over a high end CPU and medium/low graphics card. Such can be said about many games. A decent CPU and good to very good graphics card is best if you must choose which will be higher end.

These sort of benches are interesting, and they may not reflect real world performance when you involve mass mobs, special effects and AI. Compare 3dmark05 scores between graphics cards and in game play measurements of Far Cry with AA/AF at 1280x1024 in any review that has them. So this bench, and ones like it, are a good measurement of how your rig will do in game when you are walking around not fighting.

All your investigations and time spent are appreciated.
